Foxtel does not output in HD.....

You should be able to get a SCART cable with component config...works a treat.

Hey, I have my foxtel digital running through component. It requires a powered converter though. If you're intersted let me know and I'll chase up where I got it from. I think I ordered it over the web from Melbourne. It only took a couple of days to get here.

It works great. However, I must warn you, the picture quality on fox is shyte anyway. Some channels are better than others but none of them are very good. The component converter made the picture better but I still get blockiness (where you can see the lines between different shades) on my Plasma.

If you do this you'll need to make use of the digital audio out as it uses the stupid SCART output to generate the component video. You have to set the foxtel box to output RGB.

Anyway, let me know if you're intersted and I'll tell you more about it. I think it cost around $120 from memory. Well worth the money 'cause composite is the worst you can get as far as quality goes.

Cheers

Oh, and by the way, DON'T waste your money on a SCART to Component adapter that isn't powered! I did and it doesn't work! $30 bucks in the loo!

hehehe settle down whitezed, it could be worse hahaha

nah i know what you mean, i got digital in like april or something and there is a lot of false advertising in it...

i had analogue fox for about 5 yrs before it and ive noticed more and more adverts appearing on the foxtel channels... its such a load of ********e cause its payTV so shouldnt have any adverts at all but now its as bad as free to air TV!!

oh well stuff it, the content is still miles ahead of free to air and its going to be ages before we finally catch up to the USA in terms of range of cable channels etc..

I've got a couple of friends with it and the price and increasing ads has kept me away from it. I had been thinking about getting digital as I was under the impression that it was digital (hadn't looked into it at all) but if it's just analouge I won't bother. I'm happy with my DVDs.

Default Hantrex

The converter I got can be seen at www.australiandigitaltv.com and is supplied by Hantrex. On the site the left side lists an RGD to Component converter. That's what I purchased and it works a treat.

I have been told that Foxtel are still working through some things, including their video quality, so don't give up just yet. It almost certainly won't be HD, at least not in a timeframe relevant to this discussion anyway.

I agree with nang3 in that it is at vleast better than fta...albeit not as good as most of us expect it to be.

I've got a Fox analogue box on my old tv - and a Humax box in the other room.

I just take the card from room to room.

What will happen if I "upgrade" to digital - will the card - if that's what you get with digital as well as a different box- work in the humax? What will I get on the Humax?

Someone told me that the signal is already digital.

my only problem is it isnt HD .

Your card won't work with digital. They haven't figured out a way to "burn" the digital cards yet

Hello Frosty

No mate I have just checked a digital card on my Humax and it doesn't work.

I have a Foxtel card , but want to use it when I go to our holiday shack, where I have a Humax installed. The analogue card works fine. I tried a new digital card which doesn't work on the Humax even though it is supposed to be digital.

Foxtel have already contacted me a number of times trying to convert me to digital at no cost. It won't be long I'm sure before the analogue service is dropped.

I have Foxtel on my bedroom TV simply by putting down another cable and switching it over when I want to watch there.

u can use digital with a *cough* special card, but you need an internet connection or some bullshizzle and a mate with a legitimate connection for it to all work... i looked into it ages ago but never got round to it...
the guys at the www.ModShop.com
know how to do it but they've taken their link down..
