Default Good brake setup for racing?

I would like to get a brake kit. Stoptechs instantly come to mind. But I heard the 4-wheel big brake kits in general can be overkill (on botht he wallet and the track.) I want my car too also lookg good in the process So can anyone recommend a good brake setup for the track. Maybe just a kit for the front, and just new pads in the rear....or what? :P You guys seem to be the experts as I am pretty new to alot of this stuff. Thanks in advance for help.

In my opinion, if you are only going to track the car occasionally I would not get the 4 wheel brake kit. If you plan on tracking you car hard and alot I would definitely get the 4 wheel kit.

In general you only need to get the front BBK, since that is where 70-80% of the braking is going to be happening anyway. But go to braided stainless lines all around and an upgraded RBF, like Motul 600.

I have the StopTechs all around, and love them. Whether you need to go all four depends on your wallet and use. If you are going to drive hard, and often, go for the four. But otherwise stay with only the fronts and save the money. StopTech themselves will tell you that in the technical bulletins on their web site.

It also depends on how hard you use the brakes. I have the stoptech front kit (it's awsome) but be forewarned that if you keep the stock rear calipers be prepared to burn through a lot of rear pads. Not a big deal but can be somewhat of a hidden cost.
The price of the rear kit costs about the same as 12 sets of pads. I'm alread on set #5 in the rear.. perhaps when I try my new pad compounds I will get some more life out of them.

Daveh:
What pads are you running on the fronts, the recommended Axxis Ultimates or something else? And how many track days have you gotten on the Axxis pads if you are running those?

I would never use an Axxis ultimate on the track. I used them once on the track in the rain and still managed to see some fade. Switched them out after 1/2 a session. I use a dedicated track pad like an R4 or pf97 on the track. I'm going to a more aggressive setup when I finish my current set of R4's. It looks like I'm able to get 6-8 days out of the fronts which is reasonable.

Are there any quality big brake kits out there that aren't ~5k? :P

And if I were going to go for a front kit only, what pads would you recommend using. My car will be driven daily and tracked on the weekend.

I looked at the big brake kits at Stoptech's site. One front brake kit is $1995.00 and the other is $2595.00, and all I can see is tha the $2595.00 has a thicker rotor. A thicker rotor yields a $600 increase? I also noticed that the rear brake kits are more expensive than the fronts.

There's the Avalon Racing non-brembo upgrade which supplies a larger 2 piece front rotor, a new complete (not intermediate) front bracket and pads. Price is just under $1K. Here's the link.

I'm curious what others thing of them. I don't care about the bling (or lack there of), just functionality. The only issue I can see is that the rotor will still be the same stock width...

I dont see where it says it's the same as stock width. It has the same diameter (332mm) (radius?) , but I don' see the width listen anywhere (maybe i'm blind). This looks like a really cool upgrade. Less expensive, and functional. I'm going to have to research this.

Do the stoptechs have two-piece rotos too?

I'm assuming if it uses the stock calipers then the rotors must be stock width.

I personally would recommend the Pagid Orange for occasional track use and good feel on the street as well. For heavy track use I would recommend the Pagid black.
