Default making my own end links.

i'm in the process of buying heim joints. i saw there were two types. right hand threaded and left hand threaded.

does anybody know if i would have to buy 2 right and 2 left, and connect a right and left together, or does it really not matter?

anybody recommend how i connect the two threaded ends together? i would think there is some sort of threaded sleeve availible to thread in both heim joints. anybody know what they are called?

ps. after i get these finished and if they are successful i should be able to make these for anybody for ~$40.

There are a couple ways you could do this:

1. For each end link, use one male rod end and one female rod end. I'm not sure if this will yield a rod end of the necessary length, but I have seen this method on many race cars with short endlinks. You would use standard right hand threads on both parts and you would put a right hand thread jam nut on the male end to prevent movement while on the car.

2. Use two female rod ends, one left hand thread and one right hand thread. In between them, goes a short fully threaded stud. In the center of the stud you would weld one jam nut for adjustment. You then use two more jam nuts (they can both be RH thread) but jam against the female rod ends.

3. Get two (on RH one LH) male rod ends and join them with female threaded sleeve. A jam nut goes on each rod end to lock the sleeve in place.

Its all pretty easy to do. You can find all the parts and places like Aurora Bearings or McMaster-Carr.

yup. the way i had planned it is #1. the overall length of the 350z endlink is about 5 inches. with the parts i picked out the shortest length would be about 4" with max length being about 4.75"

does the heim joint endlink need to be exactly the same length as the stock endlink?

i was also worried about the heim joints rotating while isntalled. i know a jam nut would prevent the male from threading into the female, but what about if it wants to back out? or will the pressure from the jam nut be enoguh to prevent both from happening.

I'm pretty sure you need to have the sway bar run parallel to the ground for it to work properly. Therefore I would definately make the end links the same length as stock and go with option 2 or 3.

The jam nut will keep both ends from moving.

yup. i think the two females with a threaded rod in the middle will probably be the best choice.

edit:

i'm guessing i can just use regular bolts to connet it to the sway bar...

Yeah, this would be a pretty good alternative to spending $300 on adjustable end links.
