Question How do I completely disable TPS?

Moderators, if this is not in the right forum, please move accordingly -- thanks.

How can I completely disable the TPS system on my 2003 Track Ed. 350Z? I want to avoid the yellow low/flat tire icon from coming on in the instrument cluster AND that obnoxious 30 second per tire warning buzzer that sounds off when your tires have cooled down over lunch break at the track.

Is it just a matter of getting regular value stems (removing the sensors) on all 4 wheels and pulling a fuse or something? If there is also some sort of "processor" black box for this system that I could also remove to shave a pound or so, that would be a bonus as well!

Let me know. Thanks.

This has been asked tons of times & the answer that always comes back is "no". Some cars after removing their TPS get a low tire pressure light indication on their guage & some will be fine after taking them out. So far nobody seems to have a straight answer as to why that happens.

The warning only comes on after driving it continually for around 45 minutes. Since most people take short trips most of the time, it doesn't have an opportunity to trigger.

I guess you could just remove the sensors, but then you might get balancing issues.

Here's an idea. Ask your dealer to reprogram your TPS with some random Z's wheels on. Then put yours back on. You'll get the yellow light from time to time, but no buzzer.

Use a UTEC. I have winter and summer tires, when I switch them I have to have them reprogrammed to get rid of the yellow light. Since UTEC, no yellow light when sensors are not "programmmed" to Z. Secret UTEC benefit.

I drive my Z all the time, so I was hoping to find a more "permanent" solution than the "45 minute" rule. Good to know about UTEC, but I was hoping not to have to spend $1000 to turn off a light in the cluster and to turn off a buzzer. Now I understand one doesn't buy a UTEC solely for this reason alone, but I don't know Jack about tuning an engine, so I would leave that to the pros. Not to say I wouldn't love to know how to do that kind of stuff, but those cat forgot more than I know about this and like everything else, it all boils down to time and where you want to spend it.

Maybe I go "low-tech" and see if I can simply disconnect the buzzer and black-out the yellow flat tire icon in the instrument cluster(?). I'd prefer not to do that. Maybe Cobb Tuning can program that out with their AccessPORT?

I'll see if I can talk to a mechanic at my local Nissan dealership, maybe there is something he can do "unofficially" for me.

Thanks for you help thus far. Keep'em coming...

How about going to your local Nissan dealer and have them use their CONSULT system to "deregister" your TPS? The display would not get the radio signals from the TPS and might deactivate the audio warning over time. It usually takes less than 10 minutes with an experienced tech. Just a thought...

The 2003 models have a separate receiver mounted under the instrument panel on the passenger side. The signal is picked up by an antenna on the pass side pillar.
The newer models use the wireless remote receiver.
The information is sent to the amp and bcm and output is connector 15 [i think] to the light.
Maybe the antenna disconnect may work??
