I think Marty was just giving Eric and I a hard time, which is nothing compared to the hard time we give him for driving a girl's car.

There may be a manly man's car in the garage soon.

Bill,
I will have to go back and really look at their lines, but the last time I followed eric he was taking the dry race line through hogpen.

Wow, 2.41 stock is a great time. Any chance you've got video you might be able to post or link to? I'm headed to Sebring this weekend and would love to see a video of your lines around there.

Thanks. I gotta admit I am pretty proud of that lap. I had been clicking off 43 & 44's all day on Saturday. Checked out the data Saturday night and had a theoretical best lap of 40.5 so I knew there was time there. Went out second session on Sunday with the sole purpose of clicking off a monster lap. I went real hard on my out lap and hit 42's on my first hot lap then the 41.5 on the next lap. Brakes felt real bad so I pitted next time in and had smoke pouring out of both front calipers. Didn't take the Z back out (stuck to my Spec Miata for the rest of the day) so I only got one lap that fast, but that is all it takes for a "best lap".

I don't have any video of the Z (I have hours in the Spec Miata including plenty of 41s, that is basically the same line if you want) but I can tell you that there is a ton of time between 10 and 16 that I found during the weekend. I'm certainly not an expert but I'd be happy to talk to you about what I found/did. Just shoot me a PM with your contact info.

Track - New Jersey Motorsports Park, Lightning Circuit (1.9 miles)
Date - 8/3/08
Best Lap time - 1:20.0
Car - 2003 Track model, bone stock
Tires - Toyo R888 275/40-17 all around
Brakes - Hawk DTC-60 on stock Brembos with ATE fluid
Notes: hot (85), dry track.

Track - New Jersey Motorsports Park, Thunderbolt Circuit (2.1 miles)
Date - 8/6/08
Best Lap time - 1:46.1
Car - 2003 Track model, bone stock
Tires - Bridgestone RE040 225/45-18 front, 245/45-18 rear (I used up two of the Toyos in three days on Lightning).
Brakes - Hawk DTC-60 on stock Brembos with ATE fluid
Notes: hot (85), dry track.

I may have been the first 350Z on both of these new tracks. I almost certainly was first on Thunderbolt, since, apart from track members, NASA/PDA was the first outside group on the track. Lightning opened a few weeks earlier.

Unfortunately, I used up two of my track tires on Lightning in the three days before (with PCA NE), so I had to run two days on Thunderbolt on the RE040s I drove out on. I was sliding around like a drifter, but I kept improving my lap times. And when I go back on track tires, I'll obviously do much better, perhaps as much as 3-4 seconds.

Lightning is a very quick track with a long right-hand sweeper called the Light Bulb that is very hard on left side tires, especially the rear. Overall, the track not terribly difficult or technical.

Thunderbolt is longer, slightly slower, and more technical with two alternating carousels -- a right-hander followed by a left-hander -- called "the Octopus." A fast pair of esses is followed by a troublesome kink onto the front straight that is formed by a wide, bulging concrete "curb" that separates the track from the pit entrance. The problem is that the line you'd expect to take would cross the concrete. Putting two wheels on it is okay, but four wheels isn't: a Corvette that tried went head on into the pit wall.

The whole facility is still under construction, but it's very impressive. The concession food, while a little pricey, is much better than the usual trackside fare. There is also a clubhouse, open on weekends, with a nice bar and restaurant. Some entrees are $25-30, but the burgers and sandwiches are only around $7-9.

I'll try to post some pictures and video. I taped several sessions on Lightning, but didn't get any from Thunderbolt.

Default Lap Time DB

Hi guys,

I wrote a small web application that stores lap times:

www.LapTimeDB.com

I originally wrote this for myself and my buddies, but figured it could also be useful for any track enthusiast. I belong to a couple of other forums and have asked the admins/moderators if they'd be interested in having this as well.

So far it was welcomed by the CaymanClub ... I built a custom page that can be integrated into a vBulletin forum as a template.

the one used for CaymanClub is here:

http://www.caymanclub.net/index.php?page=laps

if you can't see the above, here's a sample direct link that can be used for this forum:

http://www.laptimedb.com/vwLapTimeTable.aspx?code=MY350

Note that all I'm doing is appending a string at the end of that url... this just acts as a filter so that you can easily see records posted from this specific forum.

Anyway, hope this can be useful for some of you. Please note again that this is just a free side project of mine and it's not meant to start a Hate fest for who's got the best lap times, etc. I use it to track my own personal performance (you don't have to make your lap times public -- a feature available if you create an account on the site).

feel free to send me any feedback or if you have any questions.
happy driving!
B

Thats great, and the time spent is appreciated....

but there is also www.mylaps.com which many clubs and events already can upload there times into. If they have an AMB system, it's a single click from the timing system itself.

Yup... I'm aware of MyLaps.com, which I feel is more "race" oriented as opposed to the "casual" DE driver. My purpose was to just make it as easy as possible to collect times from various places; in the forums I've seen, it's usually just a long thread of lap times that people have to sift through.

If you look on LapTimeDB.com, I actually put a field where people can link to their MyLaps record for "validation" of their times.

Again, no need to sign up to actually use the site -- the focus is on ease of use and the ability to quickly enter or find lap times -- a lot of people just "set and forget"... punch in the times and they're done. And since many of us have our favorite forums to visit, I made that linkable url so that moderators/admins can quickly embed it in their own site.

regards,
B

Track - Mid Ohio (no chicane)
Date 8/17/08
Best Lap time 1:48.0
Car 04 Touring
Tires RT615 245/255-18 on Track wheels
brakes HP+ with about 1mm of pad left
Other Modifications Hotchkis sways at softest rear, 2nd from full stiff in front, JIC Single exhaust, K&N filter
Lap Notes (Rain, heat, etc) ~75-80 degrees and sunny. Car is capable of a lot more but the HP+ were a huge mistake for a road course. Really was not comfortable pushing the car past 120 on the back straight.
