Default One fine day at the Circuit: In-car video

Ok sorry for the shot angle but i just quickly 'mounted' the cam under the headrest. lolz. i couldnt get any good spot to mount the cam.

anyways, here are my recent track day vids. i've divided them to 4 parts.

Im open to any critism guys (regarding my driving line etc)
In this event i was more focused on my lines, and throttle control around curves rather than going crazy on the downshifts trying to be the "fast n the furious" guy, so you wont hear my vq roar to redline that often.

here goes... turn the volume up pls!

LOLz! i dunno how to edit the audio, sorry haha! <---noob. i was hoping nobody would hear that.

and that part is one of the most technical turn around that track. All that clunking really distracted me on my first session. i didnt know there were some tools still left in the trunk. deym.

check out the last vid where i overshot a turn... that's when my tyres decided to let go off the asphalt.

btw. thanks spork!

It was cool watching you take the apex kinda wide @ 1st, but as you continued you could tell you were hitting them a lot better. Cool vid's!

I am surprised they let you go with crap in your trunk sliding around. That is a serious hazard.

Raise the camera mount for starters. No heel/toe in the braking zones? It also looks line your following the car ahead of you lines and he is a FWD.

What is all that noise in the car? Don't they make your remove everything including floor mats?

Sounds like you lifting a lot instead of braking and throttle on.

thanks! That's cuz most of the turns are late apexes. the first 2 apexes after the long straight can be connected in one locking turn.

passing is only allowed on the main straight cuz i was in the Novice group
Some of these guys are annoying cuz they just wont let me pass on the main straight, (maybe) trying to prove that their cars are faster than the Z, and then they're too slow when they get to the curves. I really wanted to chase the red porsche. oh well.

Yea you're right i tend to lift a lot. gotta work on the controls. thanks for reminding.

Noise - yea that was messed up . I took them out after the first session when i did a pitstop. You will notice the clunking is gone in the rest of the vids.

yea i wish i just bought the m/t i really do. the 3rd gear is just toooooo friggin looong!!!

ill try to get a decent camera mount soon.

But what's so fcked up about tracking an a/t? 350z is built with racing in mind. it's meant to be tracked. be it a/t or m/t.
it's not like im in the competition or something, dude. deym. lolz.

m3's smg - they work well but.. u heard about recalls and crap right? pretty popular among the m3 community.

ive been at the track with this baby right here several times with no issues. previous owner used to rape this car as well.

plus i keep the a/t fluid regularly changed with motul.

check out that R32 i passed right there (video #2). zooms quickly on the long straight but couldnt maintain the gap around curves. i beleive he's got a "better" transmission/drive train compared to the Z - DSG, AWD and all that... it's the skill and having fun that matters, imo.

here goes the old auto vs mt rant again.....i have auto trans in my Z
i would have liked to have gotten a 6mt but circumstances overtook
my decision. i was doing track and auto-x events almost once a month
for the last 2 1/2 yrs and occasional drag strip runs until the economy went sour(now i'm broke)

the car does pretty good in manual mode in 1st-3rd gears-kinda sluggish
in 4th but not horrible with my mods-5th is sorta slow. my car has the
rev-match feature for downshifts so that is helpful in braking zones but
sometimes it is a little slow to respond to the shift commands when the
trans gets hot-i put in full synthetic royal purple trans fluid and it helped
but i need to get a trans cooler.

i have ripped on many superior cars on the racetrack(mostly due to
driving skills but some of which was due to the car as well)

According to the User Manual (and everything I've ever seen about it), you're only supposed to use Nissan's J-Matic fluid in the A/T's. Apparently other A/T fluids cause issues.

Just something to think about.

i did some research on the fluid before i used it-royal purple says the
formula is made to be compatible with the j-matic on the bottle-i went to
a racing event in late 07 and there was a royal purple booth set up with
reps there for questions and product displays and i asked them and they
said it was coming out early 08 and when it came out i bought it.
have about 18k miles on fluid now-still shifts ok.

hail to you my fellow a/t tracker!
Yes, in the right hands the a/t works just fine. It just takes some time getting used to selecting the right gear before the turn.

not superior to m/t but the a/t works well. to say you CANT track an a/t is pretty noobish, cuz the Z is purposely built for the track and not just for picking up girls and showing off.
guys like us prove an a/t Z is worth more than that. keep it up! i've gained some props already from the honda guys and im proud reppin the z community.

now if someone is just nice enuf to donate a nice set of tyres and track pads . . .
