Default My new track car.

Well, I sold the Z basically to get something to race wheel to wheel and save some money in the process. Also, I really needed to get a truck and trailer.

So, once my Z sold I found a Spec e30 that a guy raced for a season down the the South East NASA region. Luckily it came with a trailer!

Here's what it looked like when I picked it up:

I started to take the the stickers off the car and most of the paint came with it. The former owner sprayed it in his garage and it looked pretty nasty. I wasn't concerned until most of it came off the car. So, I started looking for a cheap way to paint it. I found a color I really liked and it was in a can of Krylon.

15 cans of paint later:

Painted all the trim and bumper strips with Satin Black, car color is Satin Italian Olive. Came out pretty good for what it is and looks a lot better than it did. I even wet sanded it a little to smooth it out. It's not perfect but, good enough for a race car and way under my $100 budget.

I like them to be black, but I'm not sure if I want to paint them or not.

So, I was out at Summit last weekend with NASA and had a little issue with the tire wall coming out of turn 8 at 80 mph:

Lucky for me this car is cheap to repair and will be back out in October for under $400. Gotta love junk yards and DIY paint jobs!

Good thing that wasn't a Z, that would have cost a ton to fix up.

Good luck on getting it going again for cheap.

Looks like a practical set up. I assume that the BMW will be less expensive to upkeep than a 350Z.

It's a momentum car which is a learning experiance. I wish the car had the brake feel my Z had, the stopping power is there but I don't have the braking confidence I had with my Z. All in time I hope.

The car is very easy to balance between over and under steer, and actually a lot of fun in the rain. It likes to push like a FWD car in the wet, which is fine with me. It's a more rewarding drive when you do things right and much more forgiving. Slower sure, but still fun. Oh, and the visibility is nice. Not used to actually using my side window.

I don't think it's legal, but a master cylinder from a 5-series goes a LONG way in improving braking feel

Great find man!
