you should tape/cover the OEM air vents in both rear corners of the trunk area. These vents allow air into the car...and that is bad under racing conditions as exhaust fumes can/will enter the car and make you sick.

Ask me how I know

I ran a 3 hour Enduro race last weekend all by myself, by the second hour I was getting VERY SLEEPY...not a good thing @ 135 MPH. I realized that it was the exhaust fumes getting to me. So I stuck my hand out the window to direct fresh air into my Helmet. That worked pretty good, but hard to do during a race

So I asked my racing buddy and Forum member Mike Powers about this, and he told me about this "known problem"....so now you know too

I ripped the vent out and covered them with Duct Tape prior to the Sprint races. That worked fine, no smell of stinky "cat-less" exhaust fumes after the quick fix. However I will now make some permanent covers for them.

First thing I thought of, too! Hi Bob!

Oh, and thanks for the tip. I didn't cover them thinking they were helping me, but will certainly do so now.

Thanks for the tip. I removed my rear trunk interior recently, but haven't started the race season yet. I will add this to my list to do before my first event.

Thanks again!

I would do it now, as the fumes can enter your interior on the street...

I do not drive my car on the street anymore as of about 3 months ago. I bet on the street it would be pretty bad too sitting at stop lights a lot.

I covered racing for The Oklahoman in Oklahoma City for awhile, and at the local track the Jennings family ran the show. Four generations raced, led by 77-year-old Earnest Jennings. I think you've still got some time left under your belt.
