Default Advice: Racing Equipments

Dunno if this is been posted before, also not sure if it's the appropriate section

Mods, plz feel free to move this thread to the suitable section.

Which racing gear you guys recommend? Is OMP considered a decent racing gear? I'm referring to a complete one (suit, gloves, shoes)

Let's keep price in mind too

Thanks

As far as safety equipment goes, OMP is a quality brand. So are other European brands like Sparco or Puma, but they're not cheap. Be sure to find a local supplier and go in to try on a few suits to determine if they fit you and what size to consider. Depending on your build, a custom suit might be the best option. But get ready to pony up 20-50% more for that.

As long as you get the safety specs you need, any brand is fine. The main concern will be how it fits you. Then weight etc etc.

I feel more comfortable too with open faced helmeets but I feel safer with full faced ones, just in case I accidentally bash my face on something. Or does it really make a difference?

it does...but it's all about how much risk you are willing to take and the comfort tradeoff.

Definitely closed face helmet. I raced for over 30 years with an open faced and when I bought a Sports 2000 I switched to the closed and it only took one practice session to get used to it. My son has been givin and purchased Sparco suits and they are great but I know of several instances where the custom suit has to be sent back, including one of ours. Have someone measure you for the suit and be sure that all the measurements are exact and then write in large letters that these are the actual dimensions. The suit maker will add a little in the butt for comfort as you don't want it too tight anywhere as that cuts off circulation and you might run an enduro where you have to drive for 1 or 2 hours straight. If there is a place that sells the safety stuff go and try everything on and then ask them when their next sale will be or will they give you sale price now. Good luck with your track activities.

OMP stuff is definitely quality gear, and it's priced reasonably because they don't worry about making it look as fancy as the other brands. OMP focuses on selling their product, not a branding image. For anyone on a budget, OMP is the 1st brand I recommend looking at.

We carry OMP, Sparco, Alpinestars, and some others. If you have questions about anything specific let me know.
