I bought new 2009 Chevy Silverado V8 Crew Cab Work truck off chevy lot back in 2009 for $19K back when gas prices were high and economy was tanking. It has 4.8 liter V8 and has been awesome truck. I get 18 MPG on my commute and it averages about 14 to 15 MPG towing my open trailer with the 370Z loaded with all my race gear in the bed. I put a shell on the back to keep all my race gear safe and dry.

My only real complaint is 4 speed tranny as the drop down to each gear is a bit steep so either im lugging motor up hills or it kicks down and its roaring. But I cant complain this was a lot of truck for $19K new. I have racked up 70,000 trouble free miles. I love the way v8 silverados drive. They handle like sports cars compared to most other full size trucks i have driven from Ford and Nissan. I dont think I have had a truck that dare I say rotates like the Silverado.

If you go with enclosed trailer you will want HD version of Ford, Chevy or Dodge. I'm not big on Japanese trucks. They are over priced in my opinion and Chevy and Ford are still the best at making a great truck for towing.

Long wheelbase of the crewcab makes towing a breeze. Rarely feel the trailer behind me on long trips. I pulled grapevine at 70 MPH headed down to San Diego National Tour. The Chevy also has awesome brakes. No issue slowing things down. My reccomendation is to always go bigger than you think you need. Small or short wheelbase tow vehicles are a pain in the ****.

Damn, must be nice with all the hills in the city. I use a Lexus GX470 but I usually rent a trailer from Uhaul.

Hello diesel brother!

I will be using my Jeep Liberty CRD (not ideal, but with the right hitch will get the job done):

I don't have a trailer for my car yet. But I've got an 03 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 and I pull 5k pound tractor or a two-horse trailer with no problems....except mileage. Really bad. Like 12.

Then I ruined it with tires two sizes larger than stock and no change in gearing. Sucked the life right out of it. Still tows just fine but it works a lot harder.

Personally I like the set up I've seen with a number of Miata guys. They pull a tiny little trailer that holds four tires and a tool box. Perfect.

I'm not a fan of tire trailers.....not at all. You can put 4 wheels and tires in a z no problem up to about a 305 size tire (10-11" wheel).

This is actually why I went Deisel. The SUV would tow just fine but the mileage sucked. The difference towing with the D and not is 2-4 MPg.

I towed my Z on a steel trailer behind our '05 Armada (RIP!) from the PNW to both SoCal and Topeka, KS.

On the way to/from Topeka, we got 13 MPG on regular and 14 MPG on premium. That difference made it actually cheaper to run premium while towing that distance.

Exactly, my X5d did 22mpg street, 28 mpg highway without load. However, Diesel price went sky rocket last 2 years. It was cheaper than 87 regular when I first bought my car.

That is better than my CRD Grand Cherokee gets, not much, but better. Even with the price of diesel it is still cheaper than the v8 Cherokee.

Yes, diesel prices are killing me right now. I have yet to see any reasoning of why it has risen at a much higher rate than other types of fuels.

Could it be the new regulations that came in this year/last year? I can't recall if there was anything fuel based or if it was just the urea/EGR stuff.

looks like we can blame Europe..

For the first time there Diesels have outsold gas vehicles
981,594 diesel cars were sold last year, compared to 934,203

Worldwide diesel sales are up over 13%, and that took market share from gas cars.

Stupid efficient diesel cars are hurting my guzzling diesel truck!!
