What do you tow with....
#61
ive been towing with a 99 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4. 5.9L V8
i bought this for the sole reason of towing to the track... impulse buy. i really like the
durango, and its nice that i can fit all my tires and tools in the back of the truck and dont have to worry about stuff getting stolen out of the back of a truck. it tows incredibly well! BUT, I get about 8mpg when im towing and 13mpg when im not towing.... now that i know what bad gas mileage is and how it affects my cost of track days, i would have bought diesel... and im currently looking for a diesel truck.
(OH, btw the Noble is not mine. a local that drove to the track blew up his noble and it wouldnt fit on a tow truck so i gave him a ride home.)
My Z is the black nismo behind the trailer with the pink tape covering the front bumper! lol

The ford 7.3 see about 4 to 6 MPG better on average for standard driving. Still would be next to impossible to find one in that 7k range.

Really? I love my 7.3, but I figured the 5.9's would be better since two less cylinders, but they may have to work harder towing because of that.

I was a bit surprised as well. When I was looking most 5.9c owners where saying they were only gettin 11 to 12 city and 14 to 15 hwy.

My 7.3 with teh 3.73 gears and Super swamper mud tires gets 17-19 hwy and 14-16 towing.
Crew cab Long bed 8000# unloaded
Once I switch back to all terrain tires I will easily see 20mpg regularly.
If you get a 7.3 the motors last forever so dont balk at high mileage ones Biggest cost is replacing injectors on these things so If you can get one with injectors having been done recently nothing else is too crazy and is all chance.
My 7.3 has 340,000 miles on it and is slightly modded and it runs perfectly and fires up everytime even in low temps.
Chip+intake+ exhaust will help you see best MPG on the 7.3. That and keep stock tire sizes. If you drive all highway you can regear/size tires to achieve a more friendly cruise RPM but you will sacrifice around town/downlow.
