I "downgraded" tow capability from my Chevy Crew Cab Work Truck with 4.8 V8 to this

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 290 HP V6 and full tow package. Today I got 24.5 MPG on my commute. Compared to 17 MPG I was seeing on same route in the Chevy Truck. Im looking for an aluminum trailer now. These Jeeps are sweet. Built on Mercedes ML Class SUV chassis. I will be at about 4500 to 4600 lbs with trailer and car so will be intersting to see how the Jeep does. Its a very solid chassis so dont think it will have any issues with handling wieght on the move. My concern is more with power

Nice WK2 , I may look into the newer chassis in 2013 when they put a diesel in it, for now my WK 3.0 CRD is great.

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD 2.8l

Jeep pulled the car great at 65-70mph on i70 and got 18mpg doing it. Big hills sucked for the little 2.8 diesel, but otherwise it was a very nice drive. I think I will be ordering a chip for it soon to get a bit more hp/tq.

The rear squats a little, but overall the FJ has been flawless for a few years now.

My 7.3 was a great truck!! a Towing Pig it always performed flawlessly.

Be sure to check the Oil lines that are on top of the block. the only issue i ever had on mine was one of them letting go, its just a wear item on the higher mileage ones very easy fix i did it in my driveway.

DO IT! Mine does excellent even through the mountains towing to VIR.

Best I ever got was towing to Road America. Flat the entire way. Got 18mpg. I was driving about 68-69 mph to help along with that.

Let's update this thread with my new (for 2013) tow vehicle. It's an '08 Titan KC LWB with an older Leer topper and equipped for towing:

As far as I know, we might be the only Nissan road racing team towing with a Titan:

Here's the cargo:

We towed with an Armada for years. It wasn't until we went to a larger enclosed that we "upgraded" to the 7.3. Titans and Armadas are great for mid size towing.

I considered both an Armada and the NV van, but the weight and size of my 24' Dynastar trailer convinced me a Titan was the better option. I must admit that downsizing from my '96 Chevy C3500 crewcab dually hasn't been all positive. While I love the ergonomics, convenience features and interior design of the Titan, there's simply no way it's as stable towing. The LWB option and a properly-adjusted WD anti-sway hitch helps, but windy conditions and highway speeds can make the trailer unstable. Can't imagine what this would be like with an Armada, QX56 or SWB Titan...
