New NASA Class for 2012: Spec Z
The bigger issue in my region is the prior gutting of the cars for other series. Most cars that are near the #2900 mark have removed the metal speaker supports and other items that are illegal to remove in spec z. These are difficult to replace so these guys are shying away from the series.

I am sure that Nissan will sell you the metal to re-install the Speaker Panel. One of my NASA-SE racers just had to do this
Remember...Per the rules that panel has to be there...but it doesn't have to look pretty or actually be a "stressed member"...i.e just tack weld that sucker in there and run SPEC Z
It is actually several panels...so it will go under a cage...with some effort (cut it in pieces and weld it back in)

A 9/26 email from Jay Pellegrini III in regards to a Big Spec Z "Shoot out"
******************************************************
Good Morning,
As we get closer to the event I would like to see a show of hands of may be coming to Nola Motorsport on November 2nd and 3rd for the Spec Z shootout. After speaking with some of you and Clifton it looks like we may have the potential of getting 10-14 cars on track for this event making it the largest Spec Z showing ever in the country. Rick Kulach (Head Guy for Nissan Motorports) is aware of the event and is excited if we can get the numbers. For those of you who did not know Nissan paid full contingency despite us not having the required minimum starters, which was completely unexpected.
As an added bonus Team Pelle Motorsports are making an effort to help boost the numbers so we will be offering a complete Differential Cooler setup for the first place finisher of this event is we can get 9 starters as a minimum. John if you can make this event in your new shiny Nismo you are in charge of the last place gift. Russell with Z1 also mentioned that he would help support the event in any way he could. I know some of you may have access to other racer’s emails that are Spec Z eligible, I ask you to please reach out to them and make them aware of this event. If anyone has any questions or comments please let me know.
Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you all and possibly racing on November 2nd in Nola.

Thanks John for putting the info on the forum. I would also like to add that I met with Z1 Motorsports earlier this week and they confirmed that they too would support the Spec Z Shootout in New Orleans on November 2nd & 3rd. $200.00 for 1st place, $100.00 for 2nd, and $50.00 for 3rd. While I was there they confirmed that they would be towing down for the event as well.
It sure is and I just received notice from Clifton (National Spec Z Director) that Nissan has backed the contingency and is paying maximum regional contingency for both races instead of only one per weekend, IF we get a minimum of 10 cars on the start. So we have the opportunity to double the contingency depending on our finishes each day. So between Nissan, Z1 Motorsports, Team Pelle Motorsports, and BF Goodrich(s) support and added prizes it should make for a fun event. Not to mention the largest Spec Z field in the Nation.
At this point I am bring 3-4 Spec Z's from Team Pelle Motorsports stable. Z1 Motorsports is bringing their Spec Z and one other racer has confirmed putting us at 5-6. A few others are on the fence for this event and I'm hoping that new news will spark some other interest.
We would love to have you come down and race with us.
Thanks,
Jay

The 2014 rules have been released. Here are a few of the highlights:
1. Ballast can be mounted in the trunk area, as well as, the passenger floorboard.
2. If you remove your heater core, you can now also remove the box.
3. 10" wide wheels can be used at all 4 corners.
4. Horsepower limits will be imposed at every event, not just the NASA Championships.
5. You can add a submersible pump to transfer fuel from one side of the tank to the other to prevent pump starvation only. Read this one carefully.
6. You can remove all wipers, wiper motors, and related assemblies.
7. The diff bushing can be replaced by a non-metallic bushing.
Please read all rules carefully. Remember, what I've typed here are only the Cliff's notes.
