Default ABS question

Reposting this for you ax/HPDE/competition experts, since it wasn't getting any traction in the braking forum:

My 03' track car had an engine transplant to a rev-up. I am not super familiar with the details of what this required when it comes to the ECM. I do know that all of the CELs are illuminated, which brings me to my question. That-said, the car also has no ABS. It is completely removed. I don't know if this was for a competitive advantage (for a driver with a super-talented foot), or because it's a PiTA to get it to work with the rev-up engine. I want the car to have ABS, and am not afraid to grab the ABS components from elsewhere to install it. At this point, I simply do not know if I'll run into any issues with the install. Thoughts?

Thanks!

abs is run off a separate computer. just need that ABS EMS, the wiring harness, wheel sensors, and the plumbing. should work fine

never seen the harness for sale though, so I imagine it would be expensive unless you found one in the junkyard

I assume your ECM is an '06...correct?

If so, do you have a way to compare the part numbers of the ABS components between an '03 and an '06?

That's what I was afraid of - that's a lot of work, but I need it to work.

I believe the ECM is from the 06'. Good question - I'm not sure.

Have you started looking to see if anything is disco'd? I would start at all wheel speed sensors, then the ABC control unit etc etc. Also you may be able to connect to a Consult unit and it tell you where the fault is. I'd almost bet they did a simple ABS removal.

BTW i just disco'd my Yaw sensor and ABS still works fine. So TCS/VDC can completely be disable and ABS can still work.

Ya if the harness is still there, its not that big of a deal. Esp if you can find a donor car in a u-pick lot. Prolly get everything for 100$.

disconnected yaw sensor FTW, esp when you have a real traction control system in its place

Scott
Why not just drive it without the ABS?
There would probably be a bit of a learning curve, but I'm sure its nothing you couldn't handle

I hope so, I'm working on it, just didn't want to get the parts from the wrong year.

I thought about it, but the event I drove in the wet was a mess. An exceptional driver that can extract that extra few % that the ABS takes away is gifted. I might be able to move in that direction in the dry, but in the wet it's a whole other story.

I ran 2 races without ABS...it was OK as it was Hot and Dry...very good traction...but I still flat-spotted 2 tires...that is expensive

I do understand that there are may different versions of ABS parts...with little documentation to guide your search...just take your time and work thru the issues 1x1.

BTW: I use this tool to help me work on my ABS problem on my car...works pretty dayum well!

Besides, if you get into ABS, you've already screwed up.
