Last event of the season went off with no problems. NJMP Lightning then thundbolt. Double drove the car again, killed off the rest of the brakes and tires! Was a gooood weenend!

My best time at lightning was 1.24.06
Thunderbolt was 1.44.80

Managed to find a CD009 Transmission as well close to the track.

Winter plans are to make the rear half cage, first.
Rebuild calipers and use more aggressive pads.
Brake ducting
Install CD009 Trans

Removed the rear sound deadening with some dry ice. Been wanting to try this technique forever. The longer you let it freeze up the easier the deadening pops off. The trunk came off in almost one huge piece. The strut towers were really stuck and had to chisel most of it off. Still some glue residue left over need to clean up. More to do, but its good for now to make room for the roll bar.
About 6lbs total removed.

I like this build, gives me motivation. Also showed me that I dont need a 1500 dollar set of wheels for a track set, I can just use the "track" wheels. Keep it up!

All depends on goals and the rules you are playing by.

Welded in two base plates tonight. The main hoop will land just about center maybe slightly forward of center in the plates. The idea is space behind the seat.

Bending some tubing is next!

I tried to stitch weld the area below the plates and around that flat rear area, there was way too much seam sealer under all the panels. Couldn't get any solid welds down on the sheet metal seams.

Got distracted latley from the main hoop, CD009 installed.
Found locally, was new from 6+ years ago. Was in original box. Hope for the best, was a good deal. Switched to Redline MT-90

Yes, awesome lift for the home shop. However I never move it. It goes high enough to sit on a rolling low chair.

Bent some tubing tonight, main hoop is done. Down tubes are next.
What do you think of my design? Its farther back than most ive seen. I prefer to have rearward room for the seat and harness.

Its pretty tight to the roof. Coulda been slightly wider, bet its very close regardless.

Thanks all, rather be working on that half cage right now than at work!

MR2 classic JDM. Crazy overbuilt. Was my track toy for a long time. Learned alot, modded it way too much, broke alot. That car helped me move on to this new KISS ethos you are seeing here. Ill never sell it, too many memories and way too much fun. 380hp to the wheels in its current state.
