SCCA Track Nights

They have these Track Nights around the country at different tracks, these are a great alternative to a full day and weekend events that cost twice as much. $150 or less if SCCA member for 3 20 minute sessions. I attended the one at The Ridge Motorsports Park. Well run and relaxed event. They don't allow race cars so it's just street legal cars. My only complaint is they don't allow passages an less they are another participant. Had a friend come along with me but he couldn't ride along

were kinda spoiled here in colorado, our open lapping full days are only 150 and the large track they do this already has night lapping. for cheaper. and for 5 hrs, no sessions.

why are all the scca tracknight events on weekdays. do they not do weekends?

 

Primarily economics; most tracks have all their summer weekends rented out for racing or big club events. Weekday nights are far easier to come by and the SCCA is trying to capitalize on that...

 

arghhh. When i was still in school it was easy to just go out on a weekday. now with a job i only can do weekends unless i take a vacation day.

 

They are fine events but are severely lacking in education and safety for the novice drivers that they are heavily marketed toward.
You get way more seat time and experience for your money with a weekend HPDE event.

I did one of these events and overall for the $$ its a good deal. If your a first timer a full day with a big club is probably a better way to get started but if you have been on the track they are running at before and can get away from work early on a week day this is a great way to spend an evening.
