If I'm within a few tenths of your times at an event, then I'll consider PPE longtubes and the custom Y-pipe with HFC relocation. Until then, it's all on me Besides, I just ordered the OSG..... funds haven't transferred, but I already feel broke . I've been so spoiled with miatas and their prices on parts. All you Z owners are big ballers.

This time next year in this thread.....

"Well I had a lot of fun in STU! My current predicament now is between buying this nice house with a large two-car garage and some acreage OR I could run BSP in 2017!....... Guys I think I'm going to run BSP, because I feel like it's the logical thing to do here."

Fixed that for you.

I'm glad Z ownership isn't the land of $1k sway bars and stuff.

Although the wheels and tires were a big wake up call to me... 18's are expensive!

That's what I figured had to be done!

I just priced some 275/35/18s... Ouch! $250-$300/each. I knew there's a reason I stuck with 17s on the STI.

I'm sticker-price shocked on a regular basis with Zs......I'm accustomed to NA/NB miatas with $120 sway-bars, $500 tires(full set), $500 wheels(full set), $700 engines, $200 exhaust setups, and $500 LSDs.

I've only got one more "big" purchase left, shocks and springs! It's a toss up between Proparts Koni setup or going a tad more expensive with MCS SA. I think I'm settled on 1000f/700r for the rates and keeping a spare set of 1200-1300 for the front for concrete lots.

Bryan or Mike(Z1nonly), can you comment on how the Proparts setup rides on the street..... the Z is my primary commuter after-all. I run 700/400 to 800/450 on my 2200lb miata with ASTs and they ride exceptionally well. If I could get something similar to that, I'd be content.

Bryan can comment on the DA proparts setup, but my SA proparts 1000/700 is decent when the shocks are set to, or near, the softest settings. However, they are a bit harsh when set in the mid-range. (I assume they are worse near the stiff end of adjustment but I have not used that end of the spectrum)

Gotcha! Suppose I'd have to call/email to get a price on the SA's.

Honestly, if you intend to run anything beyond 800lb springs, the 8241/2's (SA and DA) twin tubes should be out of the running. I had them rebuilt a few times way back, then PJ had them redone for the ESP G35 this year....in the end I brought my Penske's with me to Nationals for him to run. The twin-tube koni's just cannot control the car on bumps with competitive springs rates. No real input on the 3011's. The SSP vette I drove a few times this year used them, but I don't have any opinion one way or the other about them.

Is it that a twin-tube can't handle the higher rates or that the monotubes handle them that much better?

We've been very happy with the ride quality of our ProParts Konis especially at highway speeds. Our STU Z makes a great long distance road trip car, race seat and all.

So using a random gear calculator.... http://www.andysautosport.com/learni...r/calculators/

275/35/18 = 25.57 in
2nd gear @ 7200rpm = 67mph

285/30/18 = 24.73 in
2nd gear @ 7200rpm = 65mph

Local courses around here are usually sub-60mph, but how much is that 10mm really worth? Will the acceleration even be noticeable? What happens if I hit a pot-hole.... the roads in SC do suck tremendously.

On another note, I remedied that annoying exhaust rattle. Put a few washers between the brace the the chassis, exhaust doesn't clang against it now

OSG arrived last week, gathering the rest of the parts for it. Open-diff stub axles, white-line diff and subframe bushings, diff bearings and seal, and I'll also be replacing the rear wheel bearings. The back-end should feel like a new car when it's done!

You give up 2mph at the top of 2nd going from a 275/35 to a 285/30. I think that would hurt more than 10mm will gain you, especially on 10.5" wheels (11" would be a more ideal width for the 285s).

We top out 2nd at ~60mph on the 275/35s in our DE according to data. And that's with the limiter already raised (although not to 7200)! 7200rpm IMHO is not worth the risk if your car will mostly see sub-60mph courses.
