Wanted to pass along some infor about an event at VIR in December. It is being hosted by Chin Motorsports out of Florida. This is an organization that I instruct for, and they have a great format. As a solo, you get up to 5 HOURS PER DAY of on track time, for $450.00 plus the fee to join the club. It is an open format which we are lucky to have down here, where there are no 'run groups', just run when you want, for the most part.
We will be there with the supercharged Z.
Check out the organization at:

If you sign up, tell them I sent you...

This is tempting indeed. Do they need instructors? I was planning on instructing the Audi Club event the weekend prior, but since I'll be at Barber over Thanksgiving, I could use a little more buffer time between events.

Yes, they will probably need more instructors, but of course they need students and solo's as well, so spread the word! Contact Mark Hicks at:
mhicks@chinmotorsports.com
Tell him that you were informed by me, and present your instructor qualifications. It is a great organization, and the format spoils you...

Does sound tempting... looks like tons of track time too. Do you know if two drivers can share a car? (i.e. split the track time, and the entry fee) - $450 is kinda steep for my blood, even with all that track time.

Yes, you can share the car. The FAQ covers it at:
http://www.chinmotorsports.com/faq/payment/payment.asp
It is in the payment section.
Not saying this in an inflamatory way, but I am surprised that you think the $450 cost for two days is high. I have attended events at VIR where the cost was higher, for much less track time. The other nice thing about the open format is that you are not as controlled by a schedule. You can run more on your own schedule, when you feel like it.
To check out the schedule, scroll down to the VIR events here:

Hope this helps.

I'm not so much saying that the price is high, I was simply saying I can't afford it. On the contrary, $450 for VIR Full with almost 10 hours of track time - definately worth the $450 if you and your car can handle it (my guess is that most people only use 1/2 to 3/4 of that time).
While our events have less track time (only 1.5 hours each day), they cost less than $275 for the weekend... and instructors drive for free
(www.timetrials.net) If we didn't also run a time trial in the afternoons, we could add another run group rotation, but so far it's worked out really good for us and our participants.
As event organizers, we also have to weigh the safety factors - We try to keep the number of cars on track light to reduce risk of accidents, and seperating into run groups helps to that end. When you open the track up to all experience levels at the same time, the risks increase greatly.
As I'm stepping off my soapbox, I'll say this... I haven't been doing this all that long (only about four years) so my experience is limited to our events, and my many conversations with participants and on message boards like this one... my goal for the next couple years is to try and do at least one event per year that is not run by our club (believe me, if I could afford it, I'd be out there every weekend).
So - hopefully I'll see you out there - and maybe we'll see you at one of our events sometime!

You can request me. I'm not sure if a Florida Z owner has yet or not. The other nice thing about Chin Motorsports is that each instructor normally has only one student, which is better for everyone. Student gets more attention, and the instructor is not over-busy, and perhaps too tired to be effective. Request me soon to Mark Hicks. Now, there is nothing that says I can't go out with you anyway, as long as your assigned instructor doesn't mind, between your stints with him/her. I'd be glad to do it.
