BUmping an old thread but does anyone know if that 350Z 5AT shift ring will fit around the G35 shift plate. I am kind of lost on what to do with my ugly 5AT shift boot; not ashamed of it being an auto; but it looks like crap compared to the 2005 5AT G35s.

G35 5AT Shift Console:

Lawy'd; I talked to Jason from Riverside; he said that pulling the shift ring from the 6MT probably won't work. Only way to do that is get the entire 6MT console. But let me know if you get yours installed; sure will be nice having someone else doing it before me; haha.

there's a thread on driver with guys that have done it. I tried it last week but didn't end up doing it because I ran out of time, but all you do is slip the boot under the top circle cover. There are three screws that attach the circle cover to another plastic piece that you will have to unscrew to do this.

I would acutally prefer the 350Z center console than the G35C AT. THe AT in the G35 has a different layout than the 6MT; whereas in the 350Z I think they are pretty much the same.

You can tuck a boot underneath the shift boot; but it looks very out of place and doesn't flow well inside. The 350Z on the other hand; looks very nice when it is tucked in and looks just like a 6mt. I was trying to get that plastic piece around the 350Z shift plate; and just gluing it around the G35 shift plate so it looks cleaner when you tuck the boot underneath it.

I wonder if you can just tuck the leather underneath the ridged belt of the area, as opposed to stuffing it around the ring. Basically, to make it look more like the G35 sedans.

I am not quite sure; since the shift console in the G has three screws holding it together and has that cheap thing (plastic belt) underneath it. It also might look a bit wierd since the ones on the 05+ G35 have a wider path and are square opposed to a circle. I think someone did do it; but he had to put a metal plate and it blocked the manumatic mode...

They look like this:

I have some pictures of how it looks underneath but not really all too clear:

If you can see in the picture; you can just remove the shift ring by unplugging the harness and unscrewing the 3 screws to take it off the center console. That will be my next step; but I just need to find something to fit the void (ie. the trim piece around) and I think I should be good.

With nicer weather on the way and no more need for an electric heater in the car; I might be able to get a nicer shifter; haha.

...Peace, brother. But it's "piece", BTW. I keep seeing all these grammatical/spelling snafus. I started speaking/writing English when I was 20--when I joined the Air Force. Previously, I had only "school-English" experience. I guess I had good teachers!!! No wrongs meant, guys, it's just that you expect native speakers of the language to be better than you, and am surprised. At any rate, THANK YOU for the tips/advice on Zeds, I truly appreciate them!

i've already found the bar that moves when it's in park and the break is pushed in.

to try the safty button go stick ur finger in your key hole slot and push the AT button, you will feel the safety lock mechanism moving.

this is the whole reason they sell AT shift *****. that button on the 5at shifters is the "safety lock button"

yeah, but you don't need the button.. I know a manual shift **** will work on the AT. All you have to do is push down on the whole **** to get it to do the same job as the button.. I just wanted to know if anyone has tried the nismo ****.
