Default StopTech Rotors in winter climate (salt)

In the stoptech FAQ they suggest switching back to stock rotors for the winter as the salt can cause corrosion in the rotors.

Anyone here running them in extreme winter conditions? Any problems?

I've had my 2 piece Stoptech front 13.07" rotors on for 2 Chicago winters and.........................NO problems!

I also was concerned about how they would survive Winter abuse prior to my purchase, and I was assured that it wasn't an issue. And it hasn't been. I run Blizzak's, so I drive my Z every day.

BUT......they do NOT repel salt spray from my body's paint.

Sounds like we will be putting them through the same punishment in Chicago winters and Road America summers . I am really considering them. I am not a hard core racer but I do track my car. What kind of pads do you run at RA? I was running stock brembo pads and they did great! It was also october and cold.

Before I upgraded to track brembo's from a 350z I ran at RA with the stock 5AT brakes and pads. Slight fade but nothing scary.

Anything else you could tell me about them? any special care? Have you had to replace them yet? How many track days?

Thanks again.

I've been using Carbotech Panther + or XP. They work great! I may move up to Performance Friction pads this year. RA isn't too hard on brakes as the long straights allow a lot of time to cool.

The rotors have held up well to about 20 HPDE days. I have a pair of matching rear 2 piece rotors to replace my cracking Track Brembo DBA's.

I also have been running front cooling ducts though.

I'm hoping the fronts last through this season.

Your DBA's are cracking were they drilled? I don't think they should be cracking on the rear, since the front does most of the braking? My buddy Riffster just got 2 piece drilled/slotted DBA fronts.

4000 or 5000?

They are the one piece rear, drilled & slotted. I'm not a fan of drilled brake rotors, but they came with the rear track Brembos I procured. Not sure if they have released rear floaters.....if the do/did, I'd guess they are also drilled though, so I'd pass on getting them.

thanks for all the info, you are awesome!

I just ordered the stoptech 2 piece replacements for the brembos, can't wait.

I hope Riffster's DBA's work out for him. I should send him a PM. Did the DBA's last a while before they cracked?

You'll love the Stoptech rotors. Just wait till you turn the black anodized hats to purple, then a shade of copper from the heat!

The DBA's lasted through about 20 track days. So, they did hold up pretty well, as I've heard some people only get 1 or 2 days out of the stock rotors. I admit that I have used/abused my brakes a lot! About a dozen of the days were at Blackhawk Farms, which is a b*tch on brakes.

You'll both need to join us at the farm with the Lotus Corps.

do you have a guaranteed amount of track time? I was planning on the yellow group, will that allow me to drive alone?

There are a lot of instructors. I even pitched in last year!

Bert Levy was the head instructor last year, and he did an amazing job.

But DO plan on having a high performance set of pads & high temp brake fluid. I like Motul RBF 600.

I sent my check yesterday to save the $25.00. I'll see you there!

D*mn you're fast........typing!

If you've never been to the Farm before, I'll suggest getting an instructor. I think I'm signed up in the red group......the experienced group. That way I can wave at Jack as he blows by me!

Touring is driving around during the lunch hour with a 70 MPH speed limit, helmets are not required, and passengers are allowed. Lapping is the "drive as fast as you SAFELY can" groups, where helmets are required. Lotus Corps and CAROC are much loser on their passenger rules than the PCA is. Not sure about the specifics though.

If you sign up for lapping, touring is included.
