Default How Does This Sound

I went to a local shop today to check it out since i had never been. Well i was talking to the guy about needing new brakes. He quoted me $661 for 4 powerslot rotors, 4 hawk hps brake pads, and install. I think this seems like a good deal. What do you all think and how much would it be to go through nissan for oem parts and labor. Thanx

IMHO I would do the brake job myself, its easy and saves you time and money. a pair of EBC slotted rotors will be $178, so 4 of them will be 360 sth, 4 hawks pads probably cost u less than 200 bucks, u save a 100 dollars in total.
you can get the rotors at www.ajusa.com
and hawks hps you can get them wherever u find the best deals

After you factor in shipping and the fact that i dont have the tools or know how to do this, I think this is a good deal. Thanx for the reply though.

That's not to bad. Those rotors would run you around $450.00 to $500.00, pads around $150.00. If you don't have the tools and aren't to comfortable doing it then it is worth it for sure as long as it is a good shop. May want to consider EBC Green Stuff, they cost a little less but seem to be working better for alot of Z owners.

UPDATE: I know everyone is wondering whats going on with this lol. Well it turns out the powerslot rotors were on backorder from whoever he was ordering them from so i went ahead and ordered stoptech slotted rotors. I will be getting them put on wednesday. Ill take pics and give a review on how the setup (stoptech rotors and hawk hps pads) works.

Why green stuff? Aren't red stuff and yellow stuff way better?
I thought yellow was the best, then red, and last green stuff. maybe this is not the case?

Green Stuff are an excellent replacment for stock pads in your daily driver. Red Stuff are more of a race pad. The Yellow Stuff are fairly new, supposed to be great on the track and work well on a daily driver. I'd like to try them out. Has anybody here tried the Yellow Stuff?

I have tried the yellow stuff, and unfortunately, I had to send them back to the factory to get refund for the defective pads. it is a long story, here is how is goes, this is what i wrote to the EBC USA(pls bear with my bad writing)
"Hi,
I have purchased a set of EBC yellow stuff for my 350Z(non-brembo) and
have installed them since last week. After about 200 miles of easy
driving, i went to bed in my brake pads following the procedures on
the guildline sheet in the box. I accelerated the car to 40 mph and
brought the car almost to a stop, I did this for 5 times at one minute
interval as i had been taught in the instructions. I then repeated
this procedure another time after taking a 10 min break to let the
brakes cool off a little bit. However, after the second set of bedding
in, here comes the DRAMA: I was experiencing a little brake fade on
the 4th and 5th times 40-5mph stop, and so i let the brakes cool off a
little(which is not supposed to happen in the first place, isnt it a
race pad, how can it fade so easily?) , and then here comes the worst
thing in the world, i was approaching an intersaction with a red light
about 5 blocks away, and so I gently pressed on the brake just to slow
down my car a little, and all of a sudden the brakes were gone no
matter how hard i pressed on the brake pedal, it wouldnt stop the car
AT ALL, i was so scared to the point where i pulled my ebrake with
BOTH my hands to stop the car, and my ebrakes didnt have enough power
to stop the car immediately. It took me literally 3to 4 blocks to STOP
the car RIGHT before the RED light, and I could have got into a nasty
accident cos cars on the left hand side were coming down from a bypass
which is connected to a freeway exit.
I have read a lot about the EBC yellowstuff before purchasing it, I
have been told that it is a race compound brake pads and can take up
to high temperature heat. It says on the ebcbrakes.com "
Although a full race material and capable of high temperature use with
very good wear life, this new formulation sets a new trend in race
type brake pad compounds. The "bite" from cold is superb which is
uncommon with race materials (normally requiring warm-up) and makes
this a pad which can be safely used on the highway as well as on the
race track."
I dont see the validation on this statement, I havent even brought my
car on the track and i havent done any excessive braking either, but the result is that I have experiecenced the WORST brake fade I ever had.
I am now asking for a full refund for the least, my life was
endangered by the EBC yellowstuff brake pads and I will never be
buying purchasing stuff from EBC if you cannot provide me a refund + a
reasonable answer for the defect on the brake pads, and the irony of
it is all 4 of them were overheated during the bed in process."
However, this could just be ONE separate case, but the lesson i learnt from this is ALWAYS BED in your brakes before any excessive use of the brakes, NOT only to maximize the performance of the brake pads, but it is a way to test for defective pads."
I m posting this because I just want to share this experience with most of you out there, not because I wanna say EBC yellow is bad. My friend has the EBC red on his mazdaspeed protege, I drove his car at the track and the pads didnt fade a bit throughout one whole session.
