Default want to drop/level the rear (leave front)...

Guys I searched and asked around but still cant find an answer. I only want to drop the rear so that it is level with the front and doesnt sit stink bug(a$$ high). The front is low enough for me as it is (stock). I was thinking nismo but that drops rear AND front and is too expensive for me right now (exhaust and wheels/tires first). So im thinking i need some type of lowering springs in the 0.8"-1" drop range(eibach tein etc.) And it should be much cheaper also. Can you guys recommend some springs that will level out my car be fairly inexpensive and ride decent? thanks in advance

There's a mod that you can do to your rear. Its cutting the rubber bump stop thats above the rear springs. There's a DIY here somewhere but im too lazy to search. And if you want springs i think the Tanabe gf210 are a nice drop, 1 in the front and 1.2 in the rear. But honestly after the springs settle its gonna be more like 1.2 in the front and 1.5 in the rear. So yeah just do some research.

so considering i made it very clear that i do not want to lower the front but JUST the rear... are you saying to get the tanabes for the rear only? will the 1.2-1.5 in the rear be too much and it will sit nose high if i leave the front? do people even do this (lower only the rear)? just wondering... thanks for the response

Ok, it wasn't clear to me that you want to only buy springs for the rear. Good luck with that. When you lower the rears it will also increases the rear spring rates, which might cause over steer so have fun. BTW Tanabe gf210's are cheap..

You can buy springs just for the rear. Eibach 5" race springs
http://eibach.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.exe...76781500019947

I just changed out my rear jic progressives with these. The stock lower mount works and so does the upper. Cost me $128 shipped to my door. Yes that is for a pair of springs, meaning 2.

If you get coilovers, you can change it to whatever height you want.

I said it wasn't clear to me, i didn't read your post clearly. But yeah no need for hissy fits now j/k. Well if you just want to lower the rear just for looks and not worried about performance you can do a ghetto HONDA mod and cut one coil off your rear spring

Is this the "Pro Kit"? Not much info on their site, like spring rate.

No the rear springs are 5" springs so they can be replaced by 5" race springs. You can pick whatever rate you want and use stock upper and lower seats. This is not the pro kit.

It's good to know that the Eibach ESS spring that you used will sit in the lower control arm without modification, I've known about the springs for along time, just wasn't sure about their actually sitting in the lower arm. DaveH mentioned that Hypercoil's 5" OD springs had to be cut slighty at the bottom in order to sit in the lower control arm. But in the here and now of this thread, your not making a recommendation to owner's that have a rear height adjustment system like your Jic coilover's have. And owner's here tend to not willingly and openly embrace things that are outside the box. I was the first person to figure out the rear upper spring seat modification to lower the rear, took awhile for folks to understand it's simple yet effective principle.

So we know what we are dealing with.
Oem 350Z rear spring free length is 12 3/4" on a 342lbs rate (03/04 cars)
Oem 350Z rear spring free length is 12/7/16" on a 427lbs rate (04.5/07 cars)

Eibach ESS 5" OD 12.35" free length 325lbs in rate, No other rate is avaliable
Eibach ESS 5" OD 12" free lengh 350lbs in rate. No other rate is avaliable
Eibach ESS 5" OD 11.95" free length 400lbs in rate, No other rate is avaliable
Eibach ESS 5" OD 11.84" free length 425lbs in rate, No other rate is avaliable
Eibach ESS 5" OD 11.75" free length 450lbs in rate, No other rate is avaliable
Eibach ESS 5" OD 11.67" free length 475lbs in rate, No other rate is avalliable

The 11" tall ESS spring does have your choice of rate 125-1200 in 25lbs steps.

So you see the problem, without a coiilover height adjustment system in place it's hard to predict how low the car will actually be in the rear. I'd mention that you can also back fill above the upper spring seat to correct height upwards, but we are dealing with a lot already.

I understand your saying that because you don't understand. In the rear of the car, the rear spring has a really thick upper seat make out of rubber, it is 1 3/16" thick (that's a lot of material). To lower the rear with no other changes you can cut that upper seat down. To your rear suspension, it is no different then installing shorter springs. To you it has no cost other then a hacksaw and a can of WD40 (so the blade doesn't get stuck). It will lower the rear about .6"-.8"

To the right is the oem rear upper spring seat. To the left if a cut down spring seat that happen's to be sitting on some spacers that I made.

I don't think lowering the rear only to be equal with the front is a good idea. It will look good at a stop. But when your driving and go to take off, the rear is going to squat. Then the rear will be lower when taking off, or maybe regular driving also. It will look like a boat coming out of water. IMHO.

Plus if you did get springs only in the rear. They will sag over time. So you will never really get the even look you want. Do the spring bump option if any?
