colored rotors - question about durability
I am in the market for some new rotors and pads, the company I am considering purchasing from offers 3 colors for the rotors, black, gold and silver plated...
this may be a dumb question, but I have no idea so here it goes:
Is this color the color of the metal, or is it just like a paint they put on, If so, once I start using the breaks won't it wear off and (for example - hypothetical) then I will be back to square one with having shiny silver rotors as opposed to the black ones I installed
if that makes sense, any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Any coating on the rotor surface will be worn away by the brake pads and show the silver iron beneath. If the complete rotor is plated, the color will stay on the hub and vane areas where the pads dont come into contact.
They are just standard iron rotors that have been plated with either zinc (silver finish) or cadmium (gold finish)... As posted the swept surface will have the plating worn off. After that they will behave just like all other rotors (ie, rust on the swept part). The nice thing about them is the unswept portions will stay finished and thus not rust.
