Rcvd the e-bay ball joints today --def not impressed by quality and def not sealed ..rubber was just kinda put on (not really snugg) , I managed to pull it down to where it's supposed to be . they also used solid grease as opposed to liquid ?seems sturdy enough though, I'm def going to try to replace the rubber boots with the rebuild kit ones if better quality . I'll take some pictures later and might do an install write-up when I change them out . At least they're an option to the $300+ steering knuckle assembly.

FWIW...I believe these will work ONLY on 03-04 models as 05+ models have different sized ball joints. At least on G's they do.

OK Guys,

Here are a fewthings for those that may want to DIY.
-The ebay parts ships and got to my house in about 8 days.
-AutoZone does rent the press so you can do it while on the car, if you don't wish to buy it. *READ ON if you what to do it with this press*

Now the UPDATE and QUESTIONS:

I tried to do this job last weekend and failed. After raising the car as far as I could on home jack stands, I could not get the press to fit properly and get my impact under it.
Using a hammer did not do the trick to loosen the ball joint and so I was never able to press the old ball joint out while on the car.

Plan B is to remove the assembly from the car, with the joint and use a larger press the swap it out.
QUESTION: I can see what needs to be unbolted for the most part; Brakes, Rotors, and upper arm, ect. But will i need to pull the wheel hub off the assembly? What is the cord comming out the back of the wheel hub assembly. Its not a brake fuild line, so what is it? Will I be able to simply disconnect it and if so where at?
I saw the DIY Post for the Hub here. the wire on mine is right on the rear hub plate, between the four 17mm bolts (see his Step 6 pic). I do not have Brembos and his looks like a tube line (may just be the angle of the pic) , but mine is fully flexable.

https://my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-...nt-how-to.html

If anyone has info PLEASE HELP..lol
I don't feel like starting to take it apart just to find out that I can't unplug this thing.

Thank again guys.

UPDATE:

I completed replacing the balll joints, used the ebay ones, they work for an 03 model fine.

Few things, trying to press the joint while it was still on the car was not practical. It simply did not work well and i almost felt like i was going to damage the assembly.

It was easier and quicker to remove the assembly and because I did not have a large press at home, I took it to a local shop who did the installed of the new joint for $30.

When you do this please take your time to remove the assembly, if was not difficult but you can damage the outer tie rod and make more work for yourself in the long run, watch a few You tube videos on tie rods and ball joints if you have never done this, it gives you a good idea on what to expect. You do not have to remove the wheel hub.

Just my $0.02, hope it hepls some one out there.

I ended up doing the exact same thing, trying at home, failing and taking it over to a shop to press out. But now that area is squeeking. Not sure if it's the ball joint or something else under there.

Did you change the ball joint boot out or did you use the one it came with?
I changed out the boot with a energy suspension poly one, ( better fit and quality) so I expect some squeaking .Retorqued all the parts to factory specs?

I changed the whole ball joint and boot out for the ebay one.
I'm going to get back under there and try to find the source of the squeeking.

Nope and i wish they made one. Well Moonfaced makes on and available from Z1. But i will try get a set of measurement off the s13/s14 LCA balljoints. The longer ones from Megan may be able to be used to correct roll center at a much cheaper price than the Moonface ones. http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ng&prodid=3417 is the 350Z moonface kit

Also if your replacing these balljoints, order whiteline bushing for both the inner control arm and strut mount from Z1. A couple more bolts to remove the LCA anyhow, the bushings are probably about worn out (probably wasted if your balljoint is wasted) and replace everything all at once.http://www.z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?m...ng&prodid=3783 $85 for the bushings needed.

contributing to this subject, i'm from dominican republic and i had the chance to compare both ball joints, one from my 03 Z and a brand new spindle knuckle from a 05 350z and after we measured, there is a 2mm difference between parts, the one from 03 is 17MM while 05 is 19MM

I'm now trying this ebay product after two months without finding a brand new spindle\knuckle.

As you can see i'm not in US territory so everything gets tougher.

I hope this help a lot of newbies like me. this is my second change, the first i bought the whole knuckle and i ended up paying like 400$.
thanks to you all

hey all just chiming in, i recently just bought a whole knuckle from http://www.slidegood.com/. it's a salvaged parts site. I was able to order a 03 knuckle + hub assembly for 159. better than the 320 for a brand new knuckle.
