Default Question regarding BBK - Braking or balance affected in upgrading front brakes only?

I was interested in possibly getting a pair of bigger calipers for front only (I have non-brembo right now). If I were to upgrade the fronts only and keep my rear non-brembos, does that affect balance or braking in any negative way?

Would you know if this would decrease the rear braking performance? Would this possibly affect the performance of the upgraded front brakes?

Thanks.

Probably not because I don't think there's a significantly larger caliper available to fit the oem existing Brembo rotor.

Ya I would guess it wouldn't make a difference, but wondering if anyone on here has tried it or knows for sure there are no negative effects.

You probably won't notice the difference. The stopping distance of the OEM vs aftermarket BBK is only a few feet. BBK is all about heat management - you want them to reduce brake fade caused by high temperatures experienced on the track. It will have no effect on your daily driving.

Plus, as lots of people have observed, the rear brakes on the 350 seem to do a lot of the work as seen by the amount of pad wear relative to the fronts.

it does make a different in a good way, it worth every cent imo.

i upgraded the front to ap, ss line all around, and keep my rear non-brembos with hawk hps pad , in my case i believe my braking power has improved, as i can stop sooner and the brake last longer on the track

I do monthly autocrosses but have only done 1 track day. At the track I definitely felt the oem brakes loosening as it got hot. I'm assuming something basic as the oem brembos would make some noticeable differences? I figured the rears weren't as important, so I would invest the fronts only for now, the rears later.

Ah thanks for the input stanley. So you are having no problems with the mismatch set?

some of the larger companies such as Stoptech or Brembo take in account the piston sizing as to keep the brake bias and power relatively the same if not slightly better than stock, as not to throw out the balance of the car too much.

stoptech actually has some good white papers on the subject on their website.

Dave is right on the fact that BBks are generally used for heat dissipation rather than better stopping distances..

if u want to stop in less space in a faster manner, get stickier tires and better brake pads. if only if u want to do that repeatedly, do BBKs come in to play.

I did my front brakes first , then the rears 2months later. I did one trackday with just the fronts and if i have to do it again on another car , i will do it all at once.

soildfish, i dont have any problem so far with the mismatch set
i have a friend who have a Mcoupe, he upgrade the front (6 piston) and rear (4 piston) at the same time, end up he have to removed rear set of bbk and put the oem one back in, it is because his rear tires always got lock up (it dangerous!) when he brake on the track, from i has been told, just upgrade the front and get a nice set of rear pad would help you last so much longer on the track
hope that help

thanks again for the input. I was just trying to gather some opinions about the setup and any safety issues that might arise. Looks like its very much do-able.
