I found some old posts about this back from 2007 but I figured I would make a new one to ask this question. I'm thinking about cutting a little off my spring mounts to drop my rear on my 2006 Z. Probably about a half inch. I have stock suspension. Will this be exactly a half inch drop for the back? Also, someone told me if you drop the back, the front is also gonna drop a little bit. Doesn't seem right to me. I figured someone could tell me yes or no on that too. Thanks.
It will drop by exactly the amount you cut, the springs will still compress the same so the only thing that will change is the amount of wheel gap. Just helped out a friend with his, its pretty easy, although access to a band-saw or something helps to get through the mount
I appreciate it! I wanted lowering springs but it's my daily driver and I already scrape on things so I think I'll be happy with this.
Scrape on things on stock suspension?. You would scrape 1/2 inch more then.
This mod looks even nicer when you add it to a moderate drop springs though.

Anything that will give up to 1 inch drop, then cut half inch to end up with about 1.5 drop in the back. You would love the look. You might need a fender roll depending on rim and tire specs. I had tokico springs and 1/2 inch cut for a while. Looked nice but I had to take the cut mounts off and go back to original because I did not want to go through the fender roll stuff further.
I lowered my car today with Swift Sport Spec R springs and also cut the spring mount. I didn't notice anymore of a drop in the front but it makes sense if it did. Every time I raise my rear end from the differential, the front also raises, and that's my logic behind it. Although if the front also dropped, it was probably only a few mm. Again, nothing noticeable in the front, but definitely evened up the tire gap a bit more.
Just the .5 cut will not. However if you add that to lowering springs, It could.
Any total drop of more than 1 inch will almost certainly affect camber
