What you should look for in a BBK is pad versitility... How many pads are available for the caliper and what kind of pads are available... The variety of street pads / auto x / race pads etc...
Also, how easy it is to have the calipers rebuilt / rotor friction ring replaced / replacement cost etc...

When I had my 350Z I ran Stop Tech big brakes... They were perfectly ballanced for the Z... I had the 14.1" front / 12.9" rear... Braking performance was changed so much, the car didnt dive under braking...

Speaking from personal experience, it's not that easy to make a bracket to fit different calipers on our cars. If you're just making an L-shaped bracket (like in this ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSA...QQcmdZViewItem
then you'll be looking at increasing the rotor size by almost 2 inches. Otherwise you'll have to grind down the caliper mounting points or potentially use less material on the bracket, and neither option is safe. For the nonbrembo 03-05 350Z, that means you're looking at nearly a 14" rotor.
If you're trying to use a larger rotor, but something less than +2 inches, then you'll have to change the orientation of the caliper. You're still looking at adding about 30mm to the rotor diameter, in order to have enough material on the bracket in areas around the bolt holes. Now you have to factor in maintaining the caliper clearance on the edges. And your arc angle (not sure of the correct term, moment of arc?) changes as you use larger rotors.
I spent two months designing and then had a machine shop make a pair of brackets for some brembo calipers that I had purchased off ebay. The brackets ran about $300. I added 31mm to my rotor diameter.
But it would have been easier to just buy a front BBK.

That's nice that the rear STI brembo's bolt on. They show up on ebay from time to time.
I had to search for weeks before I finally got a new set of G35 brembos for the rear ($500).

Higher rotor weight along increased rotor thickness [the metal thickness not the air space] is the key to rotor longevity........of course the cast iron must be of adequate quality [where most aftermarket rotors fail from the Chinese furnaces]!
China now makes 80% of world blanks, Brembo had to move from Italy [labor costs].....new Polish factory.

could the SPL relocation brackets for the Z32 be used on the Z33 to "upgrade" to the 300ZX calipers and the stock brembo rotors.
From reading this tread it seems that the calipers bolt up to the stock holes there is a chance it would work... no?
And.. is there any chance that Z1 performance will resume work on thier kit?

I am going to apologize up front for any information which is a repeat, I did not read the whole thread.
I am a 240sx guy and thought that I would put some general info up to let you guys have a crack at the information.
The 300ZX had a few different calipers throughout the years they are as follows.
Front:
The 1990 non-turbo Z32 used a 280x26mm rotor with an aluminum caliper.
The 1990 Turbo and all 1991-1992.5 Z32s used a 280x30mm with an AL caliper.
1992.5 and beyond used a 280x30mm rotor with an iron caliper (slight warping problems with the lighter AL caliper)
Rear:
All years had an 295x?? rotor with an aluminum caliper and a drum style parking brake (which according to my measurements is around 170-175mm between the drum surfaces)
The 300zx brakes are a direct bolt on to the 240sx, except for the rear drum setup. But the mounting locations are the same, so we can assume that any thing that works on the Z32 will also work on the 240SX.
Now, the 350z Track fronts are a direct bolt-on (95% sure) to the Z32/240SX with one caveat. The Brembo caliper uses larger mounting bolts so if the Track Brembos are a bolt on for the non-track Z33s then the Z32 fronts should be as well. You would just have to maybe run a sleeve over the portion of the bolt that goes through the mounting tabs.
Regarding upgrades for the Z32 brakes, there are 3 popular options. The 350Z track rotor is much larger (12.75"? vs 11") and there are caliper brackets available from a few places. The 3000GT VR4 rotor (12.4") is another option up front and brackets are available. The Ford Mustang Cobra rotor is another option which I know less about.

agreed - however....the Sumitomo caliper will be a difficult fit over a rotor that is larger than 300mm - it can't go down far enough for the brake pad to line up with the friction surface without getting caliper/rotor interference at the ends - difficult to describe but look here
In this install the bracket held the caliper too high and the pad outer diameter was 3-4mm above the rotor outer diameter - getting the caliper down where it needs to be shrinks that gap considerably - going to a 12"+ rotor leads to interference here as the inner surface of the caliper is designed for a 12" or so max rotor.

Having owned both a TT-Z32 and a 240SX, I would have to say that the Z32 brake upgrade is only worth it on a 240SX. The stock Z32 brake system was a little underpowered for the weight and power of the car, on a 240 they're really nice because they're larger than stock and on a much lighter car.
other than trying to save a few dollars, I dont see the point of trying to put these on the Z33-non-brembos. Maybe if you paired the Z32 calipers with 350z-track rotors, but even still you could buy a nicer and new racingbrake.com OE-BBK for less than $700.

simple question
are the evo 8/9 brembo caliper the exact same as the 350z track brembo caliper? bolt spacing and everything. IMO, if the answer is yes than all that you have to buy is some track rotor and pads and you have a budget BBK. you can find the evo brembo for 600 for a whole set on ebay. 400 for the front. plus rotor and pad and there you have it. of course the big IF is, are they the same. thanks for any help.

hi guys i am new to this forum but have been working on cars for the last 6 years. i have a good friend with a 300zx tt and he was telling me how some guys take the brembo from the 350z and put them on the 300zx. so my question is, is this true? and if so could i just put the 30mm 4 piston 300zx calipers on my 350Z because i have just the basic 2 piston calipers. do they just bolt right on or do i need adapters?

It ll fit and bolt up.
When I installed on mine (when I had the car) I used 1990 26mm (?) Iirc, but they were the aluminum
Version. I had to use some spacers for it to line up, and not touch the rotor.
IMO, it was an upgrade because I only had the single piston from the base. Oh and it also uses the stock brake line but I would recommend upgrading
