What a reasonable amount over invoice?

$500 over invoice "out the door" would mean...
that the dealer is eating a big chunk of the sales tax, and all other fees and costs. No way you could hope to get that on a Z, even with any dealer kickbacks that may be applicable.

Not great, but depends..
Based on other experiences (including mine) of getting an offer of $500 over invoice, 3% is not fantastic. Not bad, and it depends to a certain degree on the model you are looking at, but figuring on a vehicle with options totaling $25k invoice, you are looking at $750 over.. Obviously, as invoice goes up, dealer profit goes up.. I honestly think you can do better.. I would shop around a bit more and let them know that you are patient and looking for the best figure then can give over invoice.. Getting into percentages doesn't thrill me.. I generally am more comfortable with a sum certain over invoice so I can more efficiently find the "winner".
