Default 350z or supra-tt?

Im having a hard time deciding on 350z or Supra i figur i would pick up a 350 like my dads for around $ 18-19k with around 30-40k on it and turbo it which will cost around $7k for a total of $26k tops for the Z or buy a 93-97 supra with close to 100k miles for $25k what would you guys do? i love the Z but just not happy with the performace but love the looks. But if i get a supra i will have a nice performace car with ok looks but is getting out dated. personally the Z looks better to me but not sure what to do. what would you guys do in my situation. the best of both worlds wouuld be the new gtr- coming out but wont be able to afford it.

The Z should be more reliable. Getting a turbo Z for the price of a beat-to-hell-and-overpriced-Supra seems the better way to go.

+1 I totally agree! Don't deal with the heartaches and pains of somebody else's problems being pass on to you.

it depends on what you want. it's hard to find a tt supra that was not tinkered with...the 2jz engine is pretty solid and can widthstand a huge amount of boost...there are a lot of used Zs and it is a good platform to work out of.

The Supra is way overpriced and someday soon everyone will decide it's dated and not so cool anymore and resale value will plummet.

Default Buy Both!

I'd say buy the supra, then 5 years from now swap the 2JZ engine into the 350z for the best of both worlds

Its hard for me to decide because the supra is a car that im most cases has alot of miles but the motors are known to be very strong and for the 350z after boost no telling really how long untill i rebuild. I have built up a car before and it was nothing but a pain in the ***. plus all the other little things that came along with it like the overheating issues and all that stuff. has anyone had that problem on there turbo Z's yet? i have been doing my research ;like crazy and wish i could buy both i love them both but can only get one.

k3silk, im in the same boat you are and have come to this conclusion. IMO, if your gonna put 10+g's in a motor then i would go with the 93-98 supra more hp for the money, but the car is gonna be at least 8 years old. if your not gonna go into the motor and want something at most 3 years old and is fairly quick, then i would go with the 03+ 350z.

I wouldn't get a used supra for 100k because I'm pretty sure after the fast and the furious people who owned the car thought they were vin disel and decided to live a 1/4 mile at a time . Besides you can get a new for 26k if your willing to talk to the dealers.

First of all a worthwhile turbo setup is usually way more than $7k once installed and tuned properly. Check out the FI forums here.

Second, the true usable life for most cars is about 100k. Yes a Supra's motor and tranny are pretty strong...but most of them have been abused by high boost for a while...so I doubt they'll even last 75k. Also the rest of the supra (suspension, brakes, interior trim, etc etc.) will be old old old. I definitely understand why you like the car...I've been drooling over them since 1993 when I saw my first renaissance red twin turbo 6 speed in the toyota showroom...but unless you're made of money they can be real money pits.

Lastly, the Supra was never much of a handler. Most of the high-HP supras you see are just dyno queens that are rarely spotted at the track. That may be b/c they're so rare though.

It helps to get some perspective about the buyer. Is he coming from a 4 door Buick or 300 hp Corvette. But you're right about the OP being uneasy about answering the question. I suppose that if he wanted to tell us, he would. Thanks for mentioning the subject. I’ll be more considerate in the future.
