The Porsche GT-3 is a much better car, have your dad take a look at it too.

If it is a burden on the family then it's probably not the smartest idea, but that is your call. I would say if you are 17 and haven't got your license yet that you probably haven't had much experience driving, especially spirited driving. I am a young Z owner as well but drive responsibly and have been driving manuals since I was 13 and have experience with modded Mustangs and modded Z06's before I even got the Z. It depends how you're gonna treat it and drive it. If you wanna go fast all the time and be crazy on the road then no don't get it, theres a time for that.

its always nice to crash your brand new car because you're not mature enough to take on the principal responsibility of being able to afford the car.

crash your rsx-s first

I'm 23 (got my Z at 22) and have driven "quick cars" before... I've always driven hard on and off the track... The Z still gets a little sketchy on me at times. For a first time driver, BIG TIME NO.

I should also mention that I went 5 years without a ticket in my first vehicles. Since I got the Z, I've gotten 4 tickets in 12 months and I'm paying $220 a month for insurance.

If you're parents want to spend 20-30k on you for your first car, more power to them, but there are better options. You can still get into some quick and very awesome cars in that price range (Audi S4 Bi-turbo, Audi TT, Acura RS-X, etc.) and they would probably all be a better and SAFER choice than the Z. No 17 year old should be driving a 300+hp, rear wheel drive car IMO.

Further, if you have respect for your dad who "works so hard and gets underpaid" why would you want them to spend 20-30k on your first car?! I'm sure you can find a good first car for like $10k. Example: Late 90s Honda Prelude would be cool, quick enough, and much safer than the Z.

240sx would be a good RWD starter, I agree...

The Z just has too much power. Even on dry, cold roads it can get squirrely if you are not careful. And it can definitely get out of hand in rain quite easily.

I saw myself in one when I'm 17-24. Money is a big issue for me. I know my parents would probably buy a 350z for me if I ask often because they like to spoil me (mainly because I went through a very difficult time in my life that changed my life forever). However, I don't want my parents a huge some of the money they make on me, especially since my dad works really hard at his job and doesn't get paid enough. Even if I were to save up enough for a Z, I don't think I would get it as a first car. I say this only because I don't think I should drive a Z as my first car. Basically, what I'm trying to ask is, when did you get your Z? Would you allow your 17 to drive a Z? If you were 17 and had the chance to get a Z, would you?

On a side note, if I were to buy a Z, I would buy a used one.
i got my Z when i was 17 i just turn 18 and i wuld say dont do it, if u wanna call the attention at the school do it, but just think when u want to chill with ur friends u would not have space to put more than 1 person at ur side and if u speed at the streets becareful bcuz the cops are watching for new and fastest cars believe... another think is that car is to much power for u.. when i just started driving that car it was to much power to handle but now i can say that i know how to drive it, i hope u can use this opinion PCe...

I think that the Z is stable enough to feel slow and get a new driver into alot of trouble.

yeah whatever i had a sh!tty childhood too. my whole life has been learning the value of a dollar and learning life's lessons...

the best one i ever learned: if you want it, you have to earn it. material things should never be handed to anyone. pity plays no role. i don't care if you're 14 years or 90 years old. get a job and buy your own.

trust me, just about everyone who looks at your car will say to themselves "mommy and daddy bought that for him teehee" and they will remember that forever. wouldn't you rather be known as a person who works HARD for the Z? man, let your parents buy you clothes and food and give you a roof over your head. that's enough right there.

btw, i'm 24...a Z is not for a 17 year old.

+1 on the 240SX. Rear wheel driven car with lots of potential. It's a great car that's easily found and it's cheap. KA20DE motor is a easy enough motor to handle and can be modded easily. If in the future you want more power, a JDM front clip doesn't even cost that much to get and would give you access to a stonger turbo charged motor and complete front end conversion. This car would be quick, cheap, and unique in reguards to other USDM 240SX.

i agree with everyone man, youre not ready im only 21 and sometimes i dont feel ready for the car.

you have to start small, if you want rwd get a 240sx or a mki/mkii mr2. this way you have practice both with a manual and rwd car. good luck with whatever you get

I like the RSX-S idea. Get one of those. Your friends will think it's cool, and you will like it too. And you won't get into too much trouble with the FWD.

well im 18 and my father wants to help me make payments on a Z but im not sure if i truely want one yet, thats why i joined these forums to try and learn more about them. my parents want me to have a reliable car to go to college in and they want me to stop street racing because ive gotten in trouble a lot for it already. i know i wont race in a Z because they're classy and arent that all that fast but that may also be a reason i'd get bored of it after a little while. the reason i want one is for handling and reliability. i think you should start on a sport compact car that is slow stock but that u can work on and appreciate the work you've done on it like i did. you will also learn to drive a lot better. just my 2 cents...
