a lot of you are talking about driving an RWD compared to FWD or AWD..whats the difference exactly? how is RWD different to learn from FWD?

 

Rear Wheel drive don't handle as well for beginners as Front Wheel drive because of the reduced weight on the tires (exception being a Ferrari or Porsche with engine on the rear).

Front wheel drive vehicles are easier to handle because the weight of the engine means increased traction on the tires that turn and power the car.

A beginner can easily lose control with a RWD whereas it's harder to lose control with FWD.

 

I say no.

Im 21 have had the z for like 6 months and the torque is a lil too much for first time driver.

Also when i was 16-17 i had a protege 5 it was fast or ne thing but it looked good and i put a lil system in it and it was good for all my friends and all the girls..... so the z prolli isnt a good idea till after hs when all your friends go their own way and u as well.

WAIT no get an automatic rx8 that would be your best way to go get a used one and you'll a lil pwr good handling rwd and 4 seats and girls like it

 

See, I started on RWD cars. My first was a red manual S13 240SX; little power, great handling, and RWD. Really good lessons on it, b/c you have to

A.) Learn stick
B.) Learn RWD, and its nuances
C.) Can still have fun!

And then as you graduate (even though, some may say the 280zx is a step down perf wise), you will be able to appreciate the nuances of each car. The Z is torquey, yes, but if you know how to drive it it's just fine. I've had my car for about 10 months now and I think i'm fairly decent at it. I saw someone 2 weeks ago who got a brand new one and nearly got hit coming out of the dealer...

I guess the overall scary thing, encompassing this, is the adage (or is it?) that if you have money you have to spend it...why not get a job, earn your car? There are young people on this board (myself included) who work for our car. It's not really a burden, but I feel nice when I make that check out every month b/c I know it's my work and responsibility. But when people do those things for you..IE paying for the car, what do you really learn?

 

i have had my Z since i was 16... i started driving when i was like 12 tho... there was no reason for me to get the Z but my dad got it for me.. that is my first car... but i have driven many other cars... like my honda haha noob cars are the best! but i love the Z and i dont know given ur circumstances if ud want to get one as UR first car... but it is a real treat for me and i love it.

Im also in the under 20 crowd. I got mine when i was 17 but i did have my license and had a 4 years of driving experience before and if a Z is ur first car. All i can say is dry safetly and dont doing anything stupid that u will regret later. If u can get a beater car. I did. I f**ked up my jeep before i got the Z without that jeep i might of crashed my Z. The i would have to kill myself.

 

Im not going to talk back to my elders on this forum. ( Which i very much do respect) but u have no idea how i drive and my dad is fully aware of exactly what happend. Also my dad gives me the privlage of driving his cars and i respect that. Just because u got ur car at a different time in ur life doesnt make u deserve it any more than i do.
