Default Buying a Z from another State

Has anyone bought a Z from a dealership outside of their State, then had it shipped?

How did it go and would you recommend it or do it again.

Thanks,

I just did this on Monday......well sort of. I negotiated with a bunch of dealers, finally one local dealer and I worked out a price. Next step was to find this car, they located it in Michigan. (SILVERSTONE TRACK WITH NAVI...which is a pretty rare find). The dealership is flatbedding it to me by mid next week, it has only 6 miles too!

that's how i got mine.... i live in Iowa, and got my car from Minneapolis...
they put the car on the truck for the delivery.. the bad thing is that you have to pay for the delivery... (around 500 bucks)--> felt cheated by the salesman though...

I live in Denver, CO but have been working in Jacksonville, FL for awhile and bought my Z here in FL. It was just picked up about an hour ago to be shipped to Colorado for $725. Paying for the shipping back hurts some but it has been a blast to drive for the past few weeks. Now I look forward to taking it on some good twisty mountain roads since I can't seem to find many here.

The driver looked over the car before loading it much more than I was anticipating which makes me feel better about shipping it. He found some scratches that I didn't even know about. Most are so small that it doesn't really bother me but at least it looks like he will be very careful with it.

The shipping charges are up to the dealer. The sales manager really wanted my business, so they PAID for the shipping. I'm sure you can negotiate the price on the shipping. But I forgot to mention that my dealership has their own flatbed truck, they do this all the time for cars in the neighboring states...... I doubt they would give me free shipping if it was coming from Cali or NYC....... Another dealer located the same car, they said they would drive it down from Mich for me......I wasnt too thrilled on that offer....and consequently walked......but who wants to risk getting a car with an extra 200 miles or so, and potential chips and dings?

Exactly right. I talked to a Nissan sales guy who delivered a car from his dealership in NY to one in PA - talked about how stable the car was when he took it up to 120mph en route to PA ... now I dunno if he was making it up to impress me regarding the car, but if it's true I feel bad for the recipient of that car.

If a Dealer told me that I would *never* take delivery of anything from them. 120 mph on a new motor....

I purchased a car from a dealer in Madison wi. and took delivery in Calif. The great part was it was being built while we were negotiating the sale so he just had Nissan ship it to a local Calif dealer. I paid the WI dealer for the car, paid the Calif dealer for tax and lic. and it was a done deal. Simple really.

When you pay tax on a car you bought in another state, do you have to pay your state in one lump sum?

I would think you would want to be extra careful on how they shipped it. Remember, the carriers who haul these must get special training due to low ground clearance. Also, there can't be too many acceptable ways to strap the car down for shipping. You wouldn't want to throw a hook around a sensitive suspension component.
If one had been shipped on a flatbed, I personally would ask for it to be put up on a lift at the dealership so I could examine the undercarriage.
