yeh oil consumption wasnt an issue for 03's (06's had the issue)
only other known issue for 03's were tire feathering most dealers would do an alignment if u were out of spec and in some cases replace factory rubber if they were feathering

Generally, 1 qrt. every 3000 miles will be acceptable by most manufacturers. It doesn't make us feel good but they won't do much if that is the rate. You described 1 qrt every 2000 miles which is a bit much. In all fairness, M1 is thin for a 30 weight oil. I've read countless report of M1 disappearing in other cars rather quickly. I know the German Castrol is a heavy 30 weight, almost a 40, which means that it should resist burning a bit more. So, depending on which oil you use, you may see differences. But, know how they differ and don't just start buying random brands. Tell your brother to use Castrol again and see if consumption stops. There are also other Brands that are pretty good. I love Amsoil personally but it's a bit pricey and can be difficult to get. German Castrol Syntec is a good choice.
