MSRP, Patience pays...

I am the CTO for one of the major auto mega groups (We own many dealerships all over the country, all makes all models…) and a car guy since I was born; here is some good advice for anyone thinking about paying anything over MSRP. “Stop and don’t let a dealership steal your money regardless of your financial means, the car will be there in a few months!”
Like all new model introductions the hype is up and so is the price, the hype will go away and so will the demand. This is not a limited production model; Nissan is planning on about 30,000 to the US per year. You will start seeing them discounted in about 6-12 months. Used ones will start going through auction in about 12 months and deals will be available... No one should pay anything over MSRP, it is a really bad investment and the only ones profiting are the dealerships. Most individuals who really enjoy life and retire early, read "The Millionaire Next Door" do not buy into hype... Wait a while, even take the extra 3,000-10,000K and buy another toy to hold you over. Then buy smart in 6 months and really enjoy your new Z with a bike or ski in the garage...
I have seen way to many cases go by of individuals 10K or more upside down on financed cars begging to get out a year later… Many of them in last years hot car, and do not make a mistake this is a great car but it will depreciate and all of them at the same rate. History has proven that time and time again…
Enjoy your new Z…

thats right! the only good investment is a property; such as a house.
same thing is going to happen with the mitsu lancer evo. A dealer just told me they have a waiting list and to expect at least a 10k markup. This is whats gonna happen.
-cars price around 27k
-markup 5-10k
-tax
-since the markup will bump up price now you have to pay a luxury tax ontop of regular tax
-final price about 40k
-Im not paying 40k for a mitsubishi.....neither for a nissan!

. add a hefty dealer markup to that and you're looking at serious coin. Of course, i believe the word is now, IF (which i dont think it will) the lancer evo come here to the US, it'll be the VIII, not the VII.

It’s unfortunate that dealers do this and we discourage this at all of ours but it happens all too often. In regards to some dealerships adding 1K for “Paint Protection” and then not adding anything or just using plain wax, this is illegal in most states including Florida. Several Dealer Groups were just or are in the process litigating law suits brought on by the State Attorneys of several states because of this practice. Everything on your contract has to be clearly indicated and it must represent a fair market value. They can’t charge you a thousand dollars for “wax” when the fair market price is 100 or worse say it is something else, this is a scam. They can however just add it as “profit”; in this case once again walk away…
we all gotta be patient, next yr mazda and mitsu will be endangering nissan and every other competitor.
Theres gonna be many, many hot performers to choose from.
If dealerships ask a markup for the lancer then theres gonna be some of us rethinking about the wrx once again.
but the 350z looks awesome in pike peaks white with heavily tinted windows.

Loved that book, but my only vice is buying new cars. I try and offset this nasty habit with revenue as I am self employed and have the ability to give myself a raise at any time.
I am happy for all the people who pre-ordered and are paying MSRP. Cort is correct. Patience is a virtue. For anyone paying over MSRP, I have some business propositions we should discuss
