Buying a z any advice or tips?
I drive a 09 dodge charger,i just got married a few months back - my wife's car just took a dump- 97 Jetta- she wants my charger and i want a 350z.
Win win right-
well we are ok on money but not rich, so I told her take the charger
and i will buy a cheap 350z-
We have a 690 credit score and $2500 for a down payment.
I am looking for a z in the 10k-13k tops range.
I want to keep my payments low so I can pay it off quicker and have some $$$ for modding-
i found some nice base models with decent mileage in that range but then the higher models have 70k-85k miles. I am not going to drag or track or make this a show car- just a little something to drive around when shooting around town alone-
I would just do only intake and suspension mods. Looking to make it a clean simple low 350z. No wing or bling.
So my question is, should I opt for the higher trim model with more miles or get the base with less miles?
Also, i only see blacks and silver in that price range. I would love a red or white but black and silver are nice also, not a big fan of yellow- purpleish- blue color

if you dont plan to mod besides intake and suspension then get a higher trim model so you will have cruise control and a LSD.
a base is a great place to start modding since everything will get changed out but does not offer the above mentioned.

I only plan on giving it small hp gains- I like cars that can handle.
I would like a LSD- is there a lock or LSD upgrades for base or is it best to just try and shoot for a higher model.
Also how do z's hold up in the 70k and up miles?
Since i am buying used I don't really know how the previous owners treated it.

With that credit score and cash to play with I would stretch for a 2007up HR powered base model.
No cruise or LSD but you get HID headlights, LED tails, and of course the engine.

) and i have the same needs as you-- sick car with room for subtle modding.... I kinda wish i had the LSD just to say i have it, but honestly i dont want to run thru tires enuff to NEED an LSD.. and if i do, drop in a Quaife like someone mentioned earlier... what i CAN say is that the difference between HR and non HR engines is noticeable... Non HR is no slouch, but NEVER drive the HR if you buy non HR!! Just the same way i am avoiding teh 370!!!GO HR or GO HOME
I have a mint 2005 base model with 94k miles on the clock. Paid 14k for it back in May and it's the best car I have ever owned. I am used to not having cruise control now and honestly I think it has an LSD since it spins both rear wheels on command and leaves two equal length tire marks... but I could be wrong. :/
Anyway I love my 05 base and couldn't be happier; it's runs and performs just like a brand new 350z. Once I get out of clincals and into my career it's going to be a good starting point for what I wanna do.

I would try to get at least an 07 Enthusiast. I understand your credit score, but your down payment should be enough to sway used car dealers your way. Your interest might be almost ridiculous, but you could always refinance. At least you're paying for a car that you're actually content with.
