Thinking of buying a 350z
Hey everyone. I might be getting a 2006 350z. Car has 40k miles. Before I buy it, I wanted to know what issues there are with the car mechanically. It is stock besides for the intake. Its also 6mt. I never had a manual car before so I wanted to know how often the clutch goes out and I know one of my friends were telling me the clutch sucks in the car because it cant handle the power output of the engine. So i might have to get the clutch replaced with something aftermarket.
Another one I was looking at is the 2003 350z which also has 40k miles.
What should I expect to pay for maintenance?

there are three motors
03-05 DE
06 RevUP
07-08 HR
some 2006 have oil consumption issues, if interested search oil consumption in the forums and you will find more info.
clutch "sucks"? drive one and find out, most have chatter but an aftermarket one will have even more chatter, seems most 350z are on original clutch with well over 100k on it
maintenance is cheap, belts, plugs, oil, fluids, all fairly priced and can be done with a beginer tool kit

If i get an inspection done at the dealer for the whole car, how much do you think it will run me?
I don't know much about a manual car, since I never owned one. I read about the oil consumption issues and know the dealership can find out if thats a problem in the car. If i get an inspection done at the dealer for the whole car, how much do you think it will run me?
Whats a good price to offer for the 06 350z? How about the 03?

is extremely low.You did not mention what trim of the cars.Touring,Enthusiast,
Performance?Maybe one is a Track? Its hard to say what an inspection will run.You being in the N.E.,the labor rate will be higher. In this area, you could get an inspection for about 100 bucks. The price of a Z will vary by location.
What are they asking for the cars.If the 03 was clean, maybe 12-13k tops.
The 06,14-15k.Again,a few variables like what model, condition etc.
Don't give much thought to what your friends are telling you about the clutch
won't handle the power crap. What do they know? The thing about buying a MT car is a clutch will wear.If the car was driven hard,it will wear faster.
You will read very few posts about problems with 5AT cars. There are many Z's with well over 100k on the same clutch. Some near 200K!
Good luck on your search!

The first one is... http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=3
the second car is http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/3851303423.html
I'm actually leaning towards the 03 and you can see why if you read the description.
@JCITY, you're spot on the pricing

Its staying stock and it will be my DD. I like the 5 spoke wheels on the 06 more than the ones on the 03. I am willing to pay 2k less than asking for both cars

Your friends couldn't be more wrong about the clutch. Only poor driving and/or tracking the car regularly will wear out the clutch prematurely. Z's are pretty solid cars, and other than some minor issues mentioned above, are not going to be worse than any other car with similar year and mileage. I would worry more about the history of the particular car you are looking at than Z's in general.
What other cars are you considering besides a Z?
