Should I buy a 350z at my age?
*First Post on this site*
Hello everyone,
I would like to own a 350z. I am currently driving an 2000 Acura Integra GS. I've had this car for about 2 1/2 years now, runs great and I'm happy with it; however, I would really like to get myself a 350z. Been thinking about it for years.. I'm 21 years old (22 in a couple weeks), and as that goes ive saving up cash for a 350z.
I would really like to get an 04-05 enthusiast/performance/touring model. At my age, do you think I should wait? I live in Cali, make about 700$ bi-weeky and attend community college and still living at home. Is Buying a 350z be too expensive to maintain at my age? Gas (my integra is about 38-40$ on 3.90$) ? another note, Right now I pay about $75 for insurance..

If you can buy it cash-it has to be pristine. Gas and tires and insurance alone can be ridiculous. (provided you don't cheap out on any) only you can decide if $1400 a month is enough to live on. In cali on your own.....I'd doubt it. But it's your money and if you can find a good one with low miles-go for it. You won't regret it
Best of luck
Edit. Just reread and saw you stay at home. In my opinion freedom of home trumps freedom of cars.

My suggestion is to hold off. The Integra is a good, reliable ride and the Z is sure to shoot your insurance premium up. Get through college, get a better paying job and THEN consider buying a Z! The used car market is not going anywhere and you'll have a better chance of finding what you can afford in a few short years.

Depending on your schooling situation and any plans to attend a 4 year, I would personally suggest saving that money towards school and other expenses. Yes, living at home is saving you a ton of money right now, but do you have any plans on moving out anytime soon? Having lived in CA for 18 years, I know living expenses are crazy. While the Z is a fairly easy vehicle to maintain, keep in mind the extra gas expenses and the extra bump in insurance at your age.
Also, the new Z should be out in the next year or so. It should be a great looking car.http://m.autoblog.com/2012/10/01/jay...0z-ask-nissan/

I read your opinion and I think I am better of holding off on the 350z. I think I will focus a little more on saving money this year and when the time is right I will get the z. If it's meant to be it will happen

Yeah insurance will be too much at moment. I decided to make three different funds; school expenses, living expenses (for the future), and car fund. Once I have solid funds for all three i will get my car then.
It's actually not that bad as far as expenses go. I'm 19 and currently attending college as a full time student. The biggest expense I could think of is an oil change really. I own a 03 touring model. Insurance might jump up though. Gas isn't too bad either, but that depends on how crazy you drive the car. I get a good 27 mpg driving easy and not rough.

I bought my Z last June at 20 and, to be honest, I wish I didn't. I have a well-paying salary for someone my age, but a part of me wishes I had paid off my last car and been debt free. At this point in my life, I'd like to pursue other interests, finish school and get a part time job but the search has been extremely difficult. Why? Because now I have a car payment and more expensive insurance so I still need to make decent money to cover monthly bills.
Just finish school and get yourself in a position where you don't even have to make a thread to base your decision off of. That's when you should buy a Z.

My 350Z was almost paid off before I decided to sell it -- I only had three more payments to go before I would have had the title in my hands. Instead, I woke up one morning and decided to buy a 370 (definitely an impulse buy). Don't get me wrong, I loved the car, but I wish I would have just kept the 350 so I didn't have a car payment. That money could have gone to so many more important things.
I learned my lesson.
Take the advice here. Be smart and keep your hard earned money...
My z is paid off but I would lose too much if I sold it. Once you factor in tax, and financing it's never worth it. Insurance for the z will be high based on your age and limited driving history, and credit.
Keep the Acura and drive it until the wheels fall off. Nothing beats no car payment...
I had my z for 3 years and never drive it because of winter. I LOVE it but it's really annoying to replace the tires every year because of how I drive.
