Default New Paint Job + Ziano?

Just got a full new paint job... had an accident...

Should I wait to put on Zaino? How long, the auto body place is saying 6 months....

Is this correct?

It shouldn't take that long too cure. I would give it at least a month.

ask your body shop. they will know how long for the specific paint that they used, although, it is my understanding that modern paints don't need a long cure period. I painted my 240Z with dupont 2 stage paint, and had it buffed out and waxed the next week with no problems.

Did they do the entire car? How much does a complete paint job with clearcoat go for?

Had the accident on the 27th of last month.

There were so many little scratches that they did the entire car. I pick it up tomorrow, and was thinking of Ziano this weekend but I can wait..

Ill let you know the prices when I pick it up

Thanks

Base coat/clear coat cures within hours and days, not weeks and months, if it takes that long to cure then something is gravely wrong. Chemical hardeners are added to the base and clear, it has to be as the base is sealed from air by the clear coat, if the hardeners where not added to the base it would never dry.

Wait one week to Zaino, Zaino is not a wax. I wait one week just to see if any bubbles or anything like that is going to pop up in the paint that the painter would have to fix. I have Zainoed a newly painted surface one day after painting with no problems.

Provided the car was color sanded and you are happy with the lack of sanding scratches, dust nibs, and orange peel you are free to Zaino polish anytime you like.

Also, always run your hand over the entire car to inspect for over spray that will have to be removed with the clay bar before Zaino polishing.

No wax or polish will prevent rock chips, you will want the clear bra for that.

Kevin's right, but Zaino is outstanding at protecting the paint against other environmental contaminants.

True story - my friend went to a dent repair place to have a dent pulled, but they were absolutely unable to make their tool adhere to the surface. Reason? Zaino does a great job of allowing foreign objects to bond to it.

This is incorrect. If the bodyshop used a system (oven, or special lights) to speed the cure time, the paint would then be cured and you can wax or Zaino right away.
However most body shops don't use anything more than air to cure paint. Therefore the paint has to "gas" fully before it is cured. This process does take time. Depending on the climate, up to 3 months. If wax or a sealant is applied before the paint has cured, then you can create solvent pops, and that would be a disaster. If you can still smell the solvents or still smells like fresh paint, it is still gassing and should be left alone. Also, with you fingernail, tap the paint. Does it feel REAL hard like steel? Or does it give a little? That too will help you decide if it is still slightly soft.

Out gassing refers to older paints such as single stage Acrylic Enamel. Most all modern base coat/clear coats are Urethanes. As a matter of fact the base coat part of a base coat/clear coat paint job can not out gas at all as it is sealed from the environment by the clear coat. After market painters will add a chemical catalyst hardener to active the paint (it has a pot life) and this is what will cure or dry the paint.

Your information is correct if only talking about Acrylic Enamel or Laquer paint jobs, but not many people are doing those anymore and certainly no refinisher would put such a paint on a modern day car repair such as he listed above. (Except for cheapo places like Maaco or Earl Schebb, they still use a quicky Acrylic Enamel with what they call "intergrated clear coat", whatever the crap that is)

I can give you the phone number to my painter if you wish, he would be happy to explain it to anyone.
