Orbital Buffer Use?
#22
heres what I got from meguairs when I asked them some questions:
" Let me be the first to thank you for your interest in Meguiar's. Our Cordless orbital buffer has two batteries that both run at 1.9 amps. They are a 4.8V battery that lasts about 1.5 hours. It is considered a random orbital polisher so it will not burn paint. The warranty is a 1 year manufacturers warranty."
4.8 volts? I know I'm not trying to drill anything but do you guys think that would be sufficient power for buffing/polishing??

MrZeee,
This is probably after-the-fact since you last posted, but I ordered the Meguair's Cordless Buffer and am returning it. Originally, I was under the impression that this buffer would take out micromarring as discussed on Maguiar's Website in their forum, but it does not. After some consideration, I ordered a Porter Cable 7424 and am returning the cordless. I did use the cordless for wax application and it does make it a bit easier and much faster, but IMHO, it does not fall in the same category as Porter Cable Buffer. If you are looking to reduce the time for waxing your car, the cordless is the way to go. If you are looking for the right tool to completely detail your car, it just won't do the job. Just my $.02.

hey thanks Tommy81569 for the 411...acutally I'm saving up a couple more bucks the the PC 7424 myself...but you'd think they could make a decent cordless random orbital these days with the HI-PO cordelss drills (18v etc)..

I hear you. Do some careful reading about the 7424 before you try it out. I've done some pretty extensive research and it basically comes down to what people prefer themselves, but there is some information out there that may help with the growing pains and save you some money when it comes to cleaners/polishes/waxes/pads. Meguiar's and Autopia both have excellent forums for that sort of thing.
Good Luck.

One other place you might want to try looking for info on this is Griot's Garage. They carry the Porter Cable Orbital, and you can also order it in a package deal with all the pads, wax, and polish you would need. I ordered the machine polish kit without the orbital a couple days ago, since I've already got the orbital on order from another source. I'll report on the results as soon as I have a chance to try it out.

anyone have the PC 7424?? The Mcguiars one is a few bucks(actually more like double!) more than I can get at other sources, but has a lifetime warranty..but it is a Porter Cable and they are pretty top shelf...but do ya thinks its worth the xtra $$ for the warranty (plus pads, velcro backing etc..)

I bought the Porter Cable 7424 from http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pc-7424-kit.html for $159.00 as a kit. They have great customer service and I received it the day after I ordered it. I believe that Porter Cable provides a warranty, but I cannot remember what time frame it covers.

Supposedly, Nissan is using a latex based paint and if u use an orbital buffer it will make horrible swirls and make the paint look crappy. Additionally, when waxing you absolutely need to get a wax that is safe for latex based paint which may be pricey. I haven't bought any wax yet...due to it being so new.
