Default Hey, you drag-racers out there.

Because of the high-torque of this car, aggresive shifting to second gear causes some serious fish-tail. Having an '05 Base-model makes it even worse becasue it has the highest torque/weight ratio of all the Z-models. Question: For the fastest times, is it better to back-off the rpm's while shifting to second? Thanks.

If you had a lsd helping it would be easier to not spin your one wheel.

I have the Track LSD and the only time I ever fish-tail is when I'm on a road that isn't straight. When I race straight-line, I NEVER lose control, but when the road is even a bit curved, pounding it to second will make me lose control.

Both wheels spin. LSD just adds weight (and assits in cornering).

Without an Lsd once one wheel starts to spin all the power goes to the slipping wheel and it spins more.

I have a Greddy TT with 400+ on my touring roadster, and while not that experienced in the ¼, I have not had a problem with any fishtailing. I have the viscous LSD (upgrading to a carbon clutch style), and only get wheel hop and loss of traction when launching..

My problem is traction as I have horrible 60’ times (Time to get off the street tires and go for big fat DR’s). But I was getting better each time I ran.
Oh, and here is the last run I had

60’ 2.116
¼ 109.39 mph

WRONG - get an aftermarkert LSD, you will never notice the 30lb difference. It WILL help in straight line acceleration

Worst possible situation: 80 degrees plus. Humidity 80 percent plus. You follow several new racers who drag water onto the staging pad. Study the difference between the staging pad and the rest of the track. Generally the staging pad is concrete and prepared. The remainder of the track is asphalt. Bang second gear hard and you can point at the wall or the other lane. The car will point in the same direction as the tire with the best grip.

Second run: now you have experience to work from. Is the temperature rising or falling? Is the humidity rising or falling? Do you have a lane choice? If the conditions are same slip-and-slide as before, then adjust how hard you come into second gear.

If you are interested in best ET, shallow stage: make the stage light flicker.

If you are racing another car to the finish line, deep stage. Make the stage light flicker, then move forward a couple of inches. Do not move forward enough to make the pre-stage light go out.

Practice and you will kick butt and bring home trophies. Have fun. Be safe.

If your spinning so bad into 2nd, then yes let off during the shift. Better yet bang second but release the clutch slower than normal and ease into the gas, youll get a chirp at most-problem solved. Invest in an LSD if your serious about dragging...
