Default How many of you guys get this response...

I've told a few people that I tried drag racing for the first time.

A few of them didn't even know what it was at first, then I explained to them "you know, racing in a straight line, 1/4 mile"

100% of people I talked to were like "oh that's easy!"

Man... drag racing = no respect outside of the enthusiast communities...

All the time, especially from road race and/or auto-x guys. They of all people should know how much driving has to do with dropping .1 of a second, they think because they can go around a course or turn around cones they can drag race--simply put NO, amazing how they can "drive" around turns and not go down a straight line...

i do both. Drag racing isnt as exciting as autox.

As far as difficulty, autox>drag racing. Not saying drag racing is easy, but being competitive in autox isnt either.

sure its hard to cut .1 off your time, but think how hard it is to maintain the fastest line on a autox course for over 45 seconds.

see I'd say the opposite, I find anything but drag racing extremely boring
It's the same when going on a roller coaster, Freefall....YES! all the curvy stuff Yawn

Drag Racing is not easy by any stretch of the imagination and anyone that has ever done it right will know.

I was at the track this weekend watching a buddy of mine compete with his supra and was sitting and talking to the girlfriend of another friend who thought Drag racing was boring and simple until I explained to her about all the different challenges and within 10 minutes she was totally into it...

Yes, I once had a girl say "wait so you just go in a straight line for 1/4 of a mile? you don't do any laps or anything? that must be boring" lol

I autocross and road race and all that....and my first time to the drag strip is chronicled in one of the threads close to this one.....
Drag racing is easy. Let me specify. Taking your car to 95% of it's limit in drag racing is easy. It's that other 5% that is not easy, and people don't understand it. That 5% that is the ART of launching and timing the lights.
Overall it's racing. Either you have 'it' or you don't. The people that I can beat in autox in their car, I can probably beat them in drag racing, in their car. Unless of course, they are that 5% of drag racers that I mentioned earlier.

LOL. I thought that driving around cones should be easy until I tried it. Hell staying on-course is a SOB!

The challenge in drag racing is not ET, but running your ET. Saying that you are going to run 14.0 seconds and running 14.0 seconds is difficult.

AutoX vs. Drag is as heated as GM vs. Ford.

I much prefer autox to drag racing. However, autox'ing comes along once a month, whereas I can choose to visit a local drag strip in one form or another 4 days out of the week.

When I go to the drag strip, I can get in 10, sometimes 15 runs on a T&T night. At the autox, I get maybe 5 60 second runs(basically 5 minutes of seat time), but I have to work the course for 4 hours.

And although my sedan is suited for neither, it's better suited for drag racing. 3500lbs is a *lot* of weight to throw around cones.

Hey let's drive straight...f**k any other car characteristic other than hp to weight ratio

(just a comic foil, I actually like both and am not a hater of either side)

You have any idea how much of a complete b!tch it is to find wheels in our size????? I had Volk make me some 1-offs of their LE28N. They were my only option for the size and offset.

this is why im happy to be with a woman that loves and appreciates motorsports, don't have to explain anything.

While at Cali Speedway

"So..would it be hot if I was racing right now"
"it be hot if your car did nines."
