Hey guys i had my first experience ever drag racing at the track today i had a ball it took me a run or two to get use to how the procedures work. The only thing i didnt like about the track is that i couldnt go around the water box which didnt help my traction issues which i was having but i still think i did okay. Keep in mind i was running on 245/35 19inch stern deep dish wheels that weigh 34lbs each while reading the timeslip. My car is a 03 TOURING MODEL (AUTO) and it has exhaust and intake and that is all i have as far as mods go. My best time of the night was 14.3 with alot of 14.4's so i was running pretty damn consistent here is the timeslip below please criticize i want to run faster. Oh by the way i did take the spare out and the tools and traction control was off. I was wondering is high 13's in my future or im i just out of my mind.

That 60 is terrible. But IDK what auto's usually get, so I dunno :/
I know if you had a 2.0 60 your 1/4 would be around 13.8-14 prob.

Yeah I Know But Im Running On 19's And Heavy 19's On That Im Sure That Was Hurting Me And I Couldnt Get Any Grip I Felt As There Was Alot Of Improvment I Could Have Made On The 60ft With A Lighter And Smaller Wheels And More Grip. I Had Water On My Tire Also Because I Couldnt Go Around The Water Box. Thanks For The Advice Ill Work On Getting My 60ft Time Down And That Includes Swapping Out The 19's Sterns When I Go To The Track.
IMO those times are very good for the first time out...first time I went I ran a 14.7...just need to work on the 60' a little...but as stated above...yea its hard with 19's...mayby look into gettin a set of drag radials...
There are several sub-14.0 second automatics listed here: https://my350z.com/forum/drag/233840-top-25-1-4-mile-times-for-tt-st-supercharger-nitrous-bolt-ons-stock.html.
I don't know the altitude of Temple Raceway. And certainly the fat-*** wheels are not helping. Automatic racers have unique staging pad techniques which includes pre-loading the drive train. Not certain of other techniques.
Maybe some automatic racers like DomZ and AJcool2 will offer some helpful hints.

yeah i agree with the wheels not helping and hopefully some of the automatic drivers will chime in and give me some tips with my 60ft time. On that 14.3 run i was spinning all the way through 1st gear until i hit 2nd then i got grip so there is alot of improvement for me with the start. Like i stated above though i did the best i could since i had to run through the water box everytime and couldnt go around that kind of pissed me off. I was wondering with the drag radials off the start do you have to pedal the car intill you find grip or can you just basically just stomp the gas and take off with little or no slippage.

Thats not to bad at all with a automatic. Not to diss on auto's or anything but I thought they were slower.
My times all stock were a 14.4 consistent. With kinda bald tires too!

I would figure in a drag the auto and manual would be about equal. Any benefit you would get off the line in a manual would probably be offset by the auto shifting down the track better than manual.
Sup Marq. Nice times. I would have smoked the tires to at least get the water/dust off. You should be able to get a 2.1-2.2 60 ft time with those tires/wheels doing that. That would help your overall time out also. Try launching at different rpm levels and find the sweet spot.

whats up lee, the water box was long man and they wouldnt let me spin the wheels once i passed the box area so i was screwed i thought of that also. I was launching the car at 2,000 rpms it seemed if i went any higher i was really losing tracting and going sideways. I was getting a little aggravated because i know if i got better traction i was going to run real low 14's or high 13's but it is what it is right. I tell you one thing though my reaction time on some runs were sick my lowest reaction time was a .5034 i would have ran a good *** time but guess what happened car was spinning like nuts with water on the wheels. I think what i will do next time is just swap the 17's on for the track and put some drag radial on it i for sure i think i can run high 13's im running 14.3 with crazy tire spin. I was the only dumb *** out there running on 19's everyone else put there stock wheels or track wheels on but it was fun passing mustangs up running on my 19's lol. I was running my friend in his vette and he was running 13.8 with grip i would have been really near him but i did beat him once lol. By the way I like your new pic of your z man it looks sick.

vic pham hey by the way the auto z's in the 1/4 are pretty fast dont sleep on them. If you go look at the 1/4 times for bone stock z's 03-06 auto holds the second place position behind a 6 speed. The difference is only this 6speed ran a 13.643 the auto ran a 13.652 not a big difference it would be hard to see who even one that race. Now for track a z yes the 6speed would most likely dominate but on a dragstrip pretty even. Just think you ran a best of 14.4 stock right i ran a 14.3 my first time ever running at a dragstrip with 19's that weigh a ton alot of room of improvement for me and i have a touring model. Oh yeah lee didnt think of that if im in that situation again thats what i will be sure to do.

What I did when I lauched was torque it to about 2000. Then when the last yellow light comes on on the tree I pushed the throttle down about half way and let go of the brake slowly. Then floored it once I got going alittle. I ended up pulling 2 2.0 60 foots and 1 2.1. I did do a small burnout in the waterbox before each run. I have the vid of the run if you want to see the burnouts. I'd say practice on a closed street some where you live until you get it. I know if I didnt practice before I went I would have done horrible. Good luck.
