Default 07 Touring first time at the track

I took my O7 Touring 6 M/T to the track (Sunshine Dragstrip -- Pinellas Park, FL). First time I have ever raced a car at a track. My Z has about 1700 miles on it.

Here is my best run of the night. I know my R/T sucks, but right before I went a Z28 lost a wheel and they closed the right side of the track. We had to run solo for the last run of the night so I just concentrated on getting a good launch.

Time slip:

Excellent 60-foot time (I assume these are street tires). The 2007 is capable of better than 9.0 seconds. If you can perfect the first to second gear shift, I can see 8.9 seconds. Nice driving.

How's everyone launching to get the 2.0 60' on street tires?

Any tips on improving the 1-2 shift? I am lifting inbetween shifts.

Yes, I am on street tires. Launching around 3K by slipping the clutch.

Excellent launch. I'm taking my '07 Enthusiast to the track tomorrow night. I just hope I can get a good launch too...

1/8 mile ET is difficult. Unlike ¼ mile, there is little track left to make up for any errors. First gear redline is coming on fast, and you have to be just as fast to react and shift. Think about this for a minute: you do not have to disengage the clutch completely to shift to second. As soon as you touch the clutch peddle, you can pull the shift lever out of first.

Cannot speak for everyone. Only myself. The answer is practice. 2007 is my 4th racing season.

Practice makes perfect. I lift, but it's so fast you would have a hard time telling. Just work on your timing and getting faster.

Thanks VeeTec. In watching my videos from the other night I can see the car rocking back and forth on my 1st to 2nd shift so I guess I am too slow with it.

I saw your 1/8th time of 8.602 in another thread. Man that is just sick.

Not bad..my 95 LT1 Camaro Auto ran 9.1 @ 79mph in the 1/8th on a 2.1 60ft. Looks like you could bring it down some with some more practice.

Good 60' time but the ET and MPH are very VQ35de like, not vq35hr like.

Must be due to the weather or track conditions. You were on your way to a 13.7-13.8 based from the fact that it takes about 4.7-4.8sec for the other 07s that have posted on here to complete the back half.

How did you launch??? what technique? what rpm did you torque brake and then did you floor it or give it partial throttle?? I bombed my 60 ft when i went to the track and hit a 2.3...

It was in the low 70's (sorry don't remember the exact temp), but it was windy and about 77% humidity. I'm sure that was not helping things.

3K, clutch slip and then floored it once I felt the tires hook.

FYI, some people have been having problems with the 07 clutch, but I launched the car that way for 5 runs and no clutch issues at all.
