07 z at track
was not at all what i expected, my best time of the night was a 14.1 and 101mph. I could not get the car to launch what so ever i mean my first one was i really messed up cause i forgot to take traction off and right as i was doing it the tree was counting down so i spun all of first, sec run was a 14.1 and it felt so good that i was surprised i did not run better, then last one was a 14.8 and i spun 1st. so my question is how the hell do you launch these cars at the track because on the road i never spin. please help cause i know these cars can do 13's easy..... o yeah first run was a 15.8 lol

i know practice is nice but i just never had a problem launching my g or 07 sedan, and on the Z but i just think it has to do with the track being alot more stickier on the track. who knows i probly just suck lol and i don't have a scanner to put the time slips on but why would i lie about a 14.1 , 14.8, 15.8 lol.......... and for some reason none of the time slips even show my 60 ft

Are you stock? You made the Top-25.

Usually when someone posts a slip I pull a stack of mine (I think I accidentally just tossed the stack this weekend
). I save 1 good slip from every E.T. range so I can compare trap speeds, 60/330/660 times, and so on. I can tell you a lot about your launch based on the 60/330 time. A lot about your shifting by your 660 and 1/8th time. The 1/4 just says whether everything was working for you or not, but you're likely losing all your time well before the 1/8th.
All that aside. Stock tire pressure, slip from 2,000 until you get a feel for holding traction. Then increase slowly towards 3,000 - 4,000 - 5,000. If you spin don't try launching so high again. It takes a lot of practice. When the track is REALLY slick I hold 1,500 RPM's, give it 2/3 throttle as I slip the clutch (on the third yellow) and control the power delivery more with the throttle so I don't just boil the clutch fluid.
HTH.

i threw away the slips because even though im 22 i respect my dads wishes when he tells me not to race lol but it was in west palm beach, Moroso, 60 ft was not labled and i don't remember the 8th.. yes it is stock..... for those of you that didn't know what i meant by the track be stickier than the track i meant the road lol
Practice practice practice. I haven't been to morosso or know anyone who really has for extended periods, so I can't give a fair assessment other than that they have a decent facility overall.
imma go back to the track in about two weeks after that i will post those slips, and then hopefully if i didn't get ne better than you can help, and maybe with my fiancee's too because she has a nismo (260) and she ran a 14.2 and 100

I used to have a gutless BMW (cammed, manifolded 328 with nothing but top end duration and lift on the cams and no displacement to make torque down low) so I REALLY learned how to burn up a clutch and get out of the whole. Which is exactly why I am able to launch my car now - I suggest you try what I did with it and start launching at low RPM's. When you drive on the street practice holding say 1,500 RPM's constant using throttle and clutch modulation with a "quick" launch. Get a perfect feel for the engagement point so that you aren't trying to feel it out on launch. You need to know the clutch position just like you know where the unlock button on the key is.
Once you get that part down you can focus on getting more power to the wheels and raising the RPM. I never practiced over 3,000 in my bimmer, I wouldn't go over 2,500 for now in the Z until you really get a feel for the launch. Try to not bog it much and still get the clutch out fast. Once you master rolling the clutch out and the throttle on you'll be able to do it at higher RPM's (more clutch modulation to prevent spin/bog with less throttle change).
The car likes a slow roll into the clutch to get some weight to transfer before you let the clutch start to bite. It feels slow the first 2 or 3 times you pull it off, and you'll slowly pull the 60' time down and see a big improvement overall (likely deep into the 13's if you do it right).

The 07Z is capable of low 13's.
My buddies best time is a 13.4, and I think the best stock 07Z time is 13.2
Just practice launching from a higher rpm & slip the clutch, don't drop it too fast, gotta spin the tires at least a little.

I'm telling him exactly what I did to learn how to launch the car and get that time. Someone might get a high 12 out of it....time will tell.

Definitely not totalled. All I think I've honestly lost is:
Front subframe cross-member $510 + install
Possibly (likely) - front drivers side LCA and bushing (cost unknown)
Possibly (appears ok) drivers side rear wheel (would replace with SSR comp H's if that is the case).
Ok - those 1/8th mile times look high, those 330' times look REALLY high, and the 60' you did get is also REALLY high. if you can pull a 2.15 60' you should realistically see a 79/80 borderline 1/8th mile trap, and a 5.8/5.9 330' time. That would pull you down a LOT in the 1/4. should be upper 13's. Launch more slowly, even on a very bogged launch you can muster a 2.2 60', it doesn't take much to get a 2.1/2.2 out of the car as long as you don't just go ***** out and get zero traction. Even spinning I have only twice gotten higher than a 2.3, clutch giving out has netted some 3+ times though

all i can say is i suck lol i could not launch the car worth s*** and the best launch that i got i only got a 14.1 so all i can say is try harder lol thanks alot guys for all the info, and maybe one day i can get a 13.5. plus the weather in florida getting pretty cold so hopefully that helps
i got a 13.8 on my 04 first time at the track.. and it was my first manual car and i'd been driving it for a month.. i drove my buddies 07 Z at the track and ran a 13.4 first run. Rev up to 3 - 3.5k dump the clutch and she'll scream off the line with traction :]
