Default Track runs against a GT

Anyone ever go against the s197 GT's? Im catching some heat from a couple of them and I want to take it to the track. Stock for Stock, what will the outcome be? Im running an 08 6-speed. Sorry if this thread is not allowed, I am unsure if race questions happening at the track are legit to post.

have u drag raced at the track before? if u havent and they have, u will lose just based on experience alone. racing on the track is different then doing a stop light run. i'd advise u to go to the track a couple of times before racing them.

but as far as the s197, i can't help u there, i have no idea of what they're capable of

It's really a driver's race. Most 350Z guys say the Z is faster, most Mustang owners say the GT is quicker. It just comes down to driver skill-level. Neither car is fast enough to catch the other one after messing up....

You probably suck at driving as much as you suck at posting.

Judging from the way you sound, the cards are stacked against you.

He's jealous you have an '08 while he is stuck in an '07...

Its a popular question and the answer is I don't know. No one who has posted a similar question has ever gottten back to us with a time slip. In other words its a waste of time.

I ran against a couple at the track on Thursday and I beat them. The only race I lost all night was against a supercharged GT that ran a 12.4. But I'm also somewhat experienced at the track. In cars this close it's a drivers race. IMO the Z is a little faster given equal drivers though. So as long as they aren't a lot better at the track than you, you will likely win. I don't see a single timeslip at the Mustang forums with a time faster than 13.6 for a 100% stock any year Mustang GT (but I only looked at a few). All the GT's I looked at in that range have minor bolt-on mods, higher gears, or been tuned (some have all 3). HR Z's have been confirmed as running as fast as 13.198 to date while still stock.

I own an '05 Z and an '07 GT (both auto). Me and my dad tested on a private backroad.
I was driving the GT and i won with about half a car length. However my GT has 20" boat anchors. So i take it a stock GT would've won by more especially is he was a manual. If you didn't have a 6-speed and were pre 07, i would've bet on the GT. This looks like a drivers race as previously stated. In my experience GT's are quicker off the line so make sure you know how to launch that thing.

IMO, the 07-08 Z is a bit faster up top, but it's still close, mostly due to the GT's torque advantage, and easy launch. Edge to the Z, but you better know how to get it down the track.

I have run a few, and it has been close, but so far I have won the few I have run against, but 1 came down to as close 1/10th of a second, with both of us getting good launches.

You can be near comotose and pull a 1.9 60ft in a mustang GT... they tend to hover right around 13.5~13.6... I've seen two cases now of sub 13.4 slips..and a few 13.4 slips...so they are fairly close.

Of course more people race them and post results on the internet than 350Z cars so it's really hard to tell if you have an advantage looking at the limited data on your side.

I think the Gt will own you badly due to the lack of track experience you probably have. Im assuming this from your type of post.
GT's are pretty quick. My friend ran 13.1 on stock tires.

Get some practice at a track is the #1 thing before you go to the track with the GT. You need some good seat time if you are to have a chance...

THe Gt is much easier to make perform in a straight line then the Z.

The S197 in stock form will lose. The rear tires are slick as all hell, and the engine is really restricted. With new tires, a CAI and a tune the S197 can hit 12's....

That would be the 2005 plus S197 Mustang

versus the 1994-2004 SN95.

And for what its worth, for a solid axle they are a pain to launch in factory configuration.

They unbolt sways, put sticky tires on, get tuned with an intake (and exhaust) and its a different animal.

American cars are still worth modding for power a lot more than imports.

Your friend may have had stock tires, but he wasn't 100% stock. Also, the OP may lack track experience, but the GT driver might as well. From what I've seen I give the 100% stock vs. stock car advantage to the Z. Drivers are another story.

Best time I've seen verified from a GT was a 13.5, best time I've "heard" rumor to was a 13.4

With mods that pick up a lot.
