I'm actually going to the drag strip Sunday...would love to break into the 11's with a mostly stock 335i. But on Saturday I might be around. I have an 06 M3, do you have one also? Or do you mean you know some of the guys in the M3 group that you run with your 350Z? Either, way, sounds really fun. PM me if you do find a group going. I have raced some pretty quick 350Zs. However there was a supercharged G35 around town that for some reason couldn't pull on my stock M3. He said it was a stillen system? So I guess cars and drivers do vary quite a bit. When I was a LACR there was a 350Z there, I will try and post a picture of what he ran. I was running 13.46 bone stock. M3s/GTO/2001 M5s were all running mid 14's. The 500hp SL55 was barely quicker than me on some runs. I will try and post some of the times those other cars were getting.

I'm looking at a picture from Bakersfield in the summer (Poor DA, my M3 turned a 13.554 @ 104mph, a 350Z turned a 14.73 @ 97.42, a stock Evo ran a 14.11 @ 96.53 a Charger SRT8 ran a 14.62 @ 101.21mph.

 

13.46 for a stock E46 M3 isnt near the quickest for those cars like you claim. Ive seen a stock SMG M3 run 13.5 @ 100mph.

 

Please read again...on those particular days, those tracks. My quickest time in my M3 at sea level, cool temps was a 13.01 @107.1mph. At LACR (3700DA), it was 14.01 at 100mph. At Bakersfield it was the 13.53 @ 104mph. It all really depends on the density altitude etc. When I was at LACR running at 13.46 in almost 100 degrees weather, I was as quick as some of the 500hp AMG cars on some of the heads up races with my 335i. I here are some sample runs of my stock 335i at LACR German Invasion. My runs in my bone stock 335i are in bold. Now take a look at all the cars that ran quicker times than me, they are either 500hp AMGs (Sometimes), or heavily modified turbo cars.

I had an '05 M3, but that car is long gone. I use to do runs with the M3 guys usually on sundays before or after the supercarsunday meets in Calabasas.

In the pacific section of m3forum, there's a malibu drive planned for sunday. I still tag along from time to time, but it's a whole different crowd now so I don't go as much. Law enforcement in the area is always an issue, but there are particular roads where you really don't have to worry much. For sunday, I have a feeling they're taking the more popular/heavily patrolled roads.

I've gone a few times with the 335i guys, but most of them don't seem to be too interested in canyon runs. Sometime I go with a small group of BMW/porsche guys or arrange 350Z drives through the forum. I'll let you know next time I head out.

Doug: Argue objectively? I'm the one trying to give as much factual/objective information as possible. Your the one that only shows your bike sitting in a parking lot. The one with tires that show evidence of less than major cornering angle usage.

S8ER95Z: I thought someone said your car makes double the HP as mine. I was just doubting that was possible with minimal mods. I was just stating the fact that my car can run close to the 11's with only $500 in mods.

As far a a 335i being non-comparable because it is so expensive: The 335i can be had for right around $40,000. For that you get more expensive technology such as 2500psi direct injection, twin turbos, electric waterpump, sophisticated VANOS cam timing control, etc, etc. Hence, the N54 engine won the world wide "International Engine Of The Year Award". This is also one of the reasons why the car can get close to 30mpg on the fwy, while maintaining totally smooth, quiet performance. Of course you can add huge single turbos, nitrous, etc, and make any car faster, but thats not the point. The 335i is such a complete package, and that is why Car And Driver more than once said "The 335i may be the best car in the world when you consider overall performance." Remember, the N54 is tuned for low end torque. It makes over 300lbs to torque at 1400RPM!

Again, just responding with the most objective and informative information. I'm sure those out there with an open mind are learning some interesting things here. And then there are those here such as Doug, S8ER95Z, who just feel compelled to react irrationally and with substantiating factual data. You can see on my youtube videos my timed runs showing my speedometer, etc. With my current tune, I will try and make another video, and you will see my car will run very close to the 11's with just a $500 Tune, Fuel, and Tires.

 

I have the R switch and one H pill. Are you going on Sunday? Sounds fun. Have you seen what your car runs at the track yet? I used to go to Buttonwillow in my M3. That was fun, but it was 106F track temps. I think it is so much harder on your car running so long on a road course compared to a quick 12 second burst with ample cool down. I really hate it when a guy with another car make comes onto this forum just to stir up crap...

I agree that the 335i is a nice car and with a few mods can yield some pretty impressive gains over stock - but heck, so can ANY stock turbo car...

If you want to compare apples to apples the 335i with just basic paint and no options is a 40K car - add your Juicebox tune ($500) and a set of drag radials/rims (~$1000) and you are @ 41.5K respectfully...

Take a base 350Z with no options (28K) - go with one of the several Twin Turbo kit packages that are offer here by vendors (includes kit, install, ECU/tune and clutch) on a stock block (~10K), add a set of drag radials/rims (~1000) and you are @ 39K in a much better looking car (subjective opinion, I know ) that will put down 450WHP!

You're BMW would have a hard time just keeping those 350Z tail lights in view...

+1 - totally agree, there are several other cars on the market that will get you into the 11's for far less than +40K...

Still wondering why this person hasn't trolled back to the BMW forums already...
