Default First V8 kill

The local drag stip opened up for the first time this year so I went out there to have some fun. The last time I went was in late November and it was 35-40 degrees outside and was running 14.9x's all night. (5AT @ 3000ft alt) So today Im still running my usual 14.9x's and line up with a 99+ Mustang GT 5 speed and beat him by a full second! We pick up our timeslip and he asks me if I want to go again. We go again and he has a better run but I still beat him by 3 tenths. After this he parks his car so I drive over to say "good race" and he asks me whats under my hood. I guess he didnt know anything about the 350Z because he could not believe it is a V6. Anyways, he was impressed.

Default Whats under the hood

He was probably hoping you would say nitrous or a blower or something.

It is even worse to admit you got beat by a NA V6.

I got my first V8 kill on video

I suck at drag racing, but it was still fun.

Race with Mustang GT

BTW, the Mustang GT pulled a 16.402 @ 84.09 MPH.

I knew they were slow, but not that bad. I guess I should add, he missed 3rd gear I think.

For clarification, the track is at 3075ft ASL.

stock can be v6 or v8. the base models are v6s. the gt's are SOHC V8s and the cobras are dohc v8s. in 03 and 04 the cobras are supercharged and they also have a mach 1 with the old cobra NA DOHC motor. "stock" just means "as was from the factory."

After... Bottom line, I SUCK!!!!

smoked tires through first and second gear. Plus, car is not properly tuned for this elevation. I richened it up before I left Colorado and haven't found a long enough stretch of road without cops that I can do 4th and 5th gear full throttle runs on, to properly tune the car. Altitude adjusted, my best run is a 13.7@102.33

I'm running around a 9.5:1 A/F ratio from 4500-redline. Probably losing 40+ HP from that, plus did I mention I suck.

I get that a lot.

Good kill. He definitely f'd up that run because GTs haven't run that slow since the early 80s. With your time, at that altitude, you'd probably have squeaked out a victory even if he didn't miss a gear.

I don't have any trouble with most of the V8's at infineon. Camero's, mustangs, S10 with small block etc. I usually run in street class which is mostly V8's. Don't get me wrong, there are some 11 sec cars in street class, but it always amazes me when I blow away some car that is loping at the line and sounds bad as hell.
I have a 5AT and turn 14.2-14.4 98-99mph consistantly. That is with severe wheelspin in 1st. I finally hooked up once last Weds, but still only ran 14.2. I just need to find the right air pressure, launch technique etc. Will practice some more next Weds.
