My friend had his out when Aceman was at Mason Dixon last Saturday. 98 Cobra 3.73 gears, subframe connectors, BBK CAI, X pipe (no cats) Flowmasters, pulleys.

His best time: 14.5 (mine that day no bottle 13.6)

3 weeks earlier I watched a 04 Cobra (390hp) with cat-back run a 14.4 and a 13.5. (mine that day on bottle 13.1)

I think Cobra's are WAY over rated!

Umm no, the drivers of the ones you saw were really bad.

I beat a girl driving a brand new Cobra vert. She ran a 14.3@105, with a 2.6 60'.

That could have been a low to mid 13 with a good driver at this particular track.

Personally, I have seen stock Cobras run mid to high 12's at the faster tracks, with traps speeds around 112.

Performance wise they are anything but overrated.

OK so maybe there drivers are overrated. Once again we have to remember this is a 350z forum not a STi forum or Cobra forum.

I've owned several Mustang's in the past (don't like to admit it) they just can't put the power to the ground. A friend on another forum races his stock 350z against a friends almost stock 98 Cobra and it's very close.

I beat a supercharged 97 Cobra one night in my AWD Audi TT.

Yes the new model 390hp has alot of tuning potential, but if you can't put that power down it just isn't happening.

You can get a sc 350z for 35000 and it will do low 13's stock. With a few light mods it will do 11's. the dohc's take forced induction well.

Hmmm . . . yeah.

I was at the track a couple weeks ago and saw 3 S/C cobras running between 13.4-13.9. I havent driven one but when i talked to one of the guys he said the cars are hard to launch, so i wouldnt be suprised if my Z would be able to take a S/C cobra on the street.Ive raced around 7-10 different cobras N/A around my area, some with a few bolt ons but i raped everyone of them pretty good id have to say. I also did some rolls at 20,40,70 with them when i was stock and the Z would pull on them even if u shifted slow. I ran with an STi for about 30min on the freeway with my current mods...we were about even. i had a 230lb passenger with me.

Because ppl like you wouldnt expect it and if the 350Z was heavily modded, it would take alot of ppl by suprise.

An 03/04 Cobra is no joke. The bottom end is forged and can survive 1200 rwhp. Its been done by Strickly Performance here in Houston. Stock, they run on avg around 12.9@110. With 2k in mods, they can be 11 second cars with the right tires and drivers. 6k in mods, they can swap the blower for a Kenny Bell and lay down 600 rwhp. Toss in a custom kit with a pair of T70 turbos and you might have 800 rwhp. And they even come with a independent rear suspention!!!

As far as straight line acceleration goes, the 350Z can only compete witht he 03/04 Cobras on a dollar per dollar basis after investing in the AEBS stroker kit.

dragging the z is fun. bottom line. sure i can get a civic or mustang and tweak them to run a 3 second 1/4 mile, but then i'd be like every other 16+ year old who wants super cheap speed and ZERO looks. this of course if my opinion and it might not match yours but oh well.

let me put it this way. my buddy doesnt like taking out his cobra when my z is around because of the fact that the z gets all the attention, and this was before the doors so i dont wanna hear any excuses about that.

i dont think people buy a 350z to compete with any other cars power output. its a great looking car with a decent stock engine to boot. the price isnt all that bad either. good day.

If you're gonna drive faster than the posted speed limit. The Track is the intelligent choice ...opposed to a public highway.

Because it's safer than running all the stupid ricers on the street, although it's kinda fun every once in a while.

I agree. The original question...'WhY yoU RaZe Z CaR????" is stupid. I'm sure he is the type that knocks the track while living for illegal street racing. "For those 17 seconds.....I'm free"...lol.

I actually have a simple theory why most ricers dont like to go to the track. If they did, there would be evidence that their best run with i/h/e was a 17.54@78.13mph.....on slicks.

It may cost less.. but it also won't last as long. debatably. I have yet to lose to any cobra or noncobra.. modded or no.. nitrous or no. from my experiences.. i am sure there is one out there that can fly but none that I have encountered.. and I must tell you I have encountered a lot of mustangs.. the entire stlmustangs.

it will always be an arguement to which car would be better or not. to each his own. I and pretty much any else here bought the Z cause of looks and performance. The stock n/a Z is not made for the cobra's class.. the gt's class it is, and is why it beats the gt in every section. wait til the TT comes out then compare apples to apples. It may cost more. but it will also preform a lot more.

Edit: oh yea, I drag my Z because my truck won't pull a 11s 1/4
