The stock setup isnt really designed to lock just the rear.

Look at the KSport hydro e-brake. I did one in my car and it works perfect.

make sure you push the clutch in, and pull the e-brake.

it will not gonna do anything if its in gear.

is there a way to disable that feature or something. i drift my friends 240 quite often and i lay on the gas immediately after letting down the ebrake and that would just plain suck if it had to be in neutral for this to happen.

??

You can't lock the rear wheels in gear, or it would stop the engine...

the factory hand brake works great. if you intend on drifting with a Z, do yourself a favor and buy the Project Mu rear drum shoes. Your handbrake will lock up perfect every time. I use it in both of my drift cars.

you will also want to adjust the shoes so they lock together. i believe there is a step by step on the board somewhere.

^^^ Chris Forsburg.

To adjust ebake balance:
Take off rear brake rotors (e-brake must be released)
Make sure car is in nuetral.
Pull ebrake up a couple clicks until you can barely turn one of the hubs.
Turn the little spindle adjustment **** under the assembly, between the shoes, on the other (freely spinning or non-spinning hub) until that hub barely turns also. If you do it right, you can then lift the ebrake lever one click more and have both hubs set to where they don't turn. Now your ebrake shoes have balanced brake torque.

Thanks for the info about the Project Mu shoes. I didn't know they were the only mod needed.

Yeah, about the ebrake, when u get the Z in stock form, the Ebrake can only does its propose. I had the same issue before, that damn ebrake didn't lock rear for crap, until i've tighten up the rear. Now, just today, i just order a pair of project mu ebrake shoes, i hope it will really get the job done.

This thread is a little old man. But I assure you the P.MU shoes definetly do their job. At the last event I went to I was locking the rear without pressing the clutch. And the handle doesn't even need to be pulled that hard. I was modulating the handle like I modulate the gas pedal to change my angle as well as keep the car from pushing out too hard. I can't even imagine how nice they'll be when I have better wheels and tires on the back. Best investment I've put into my car along with my coilovers.

I would also like to know this.......as the rear mu shoes are hard to find and if you do find them, they are hard to find in stock...

for those that used it or have it currently installed, can i just go to a shop and tell them to change it out and will that already be enough to lock up the rear brakes, or should i make the other adjustments as noted in the previous posts.

I got mine through www.innovativetuning.com as they are local to me, but I know they drop ship anywhere.

Personally, I found I cannot reach the stock e-brake handle when I'm tightened down in my harnesses. My seat is just bolted to a bracket on the floor, no sliders, so my arm will not clear the bolster on my racetechs. I had to extend the lever up to the shifter so I can quickly swap between the two. I also replaced the cable section that connects to the e-brake handle as it was badly worn (it ties the two cables that goto the shoes to the handle).

I adjusted them at the brake shoes but not at the handle (I had done that a long time ago when I first got the car). I was no where near as thorough as the other guys but mine lock up realy well.

And in all honesty changing out the shoes can definetly be done with basic tools. As long as you have the tools to take off the rotors and a screwdriver you can replace the shoes.
