after installing tein tie rods with the spacer over the inner tie rod threads, resulting in spacer between steering rack and inner rods........
you will hands down need an alignment, no way around it....
as for alignment, use factory alignment specs or whatever you wish...
Ians right, grind down the steering stops about half way.....

I did read the posts about the tie rods. Very well written. I'll let everyone know how it went. Thanks.

jason, i dont have a z, but im just scoping around for one lol
but can you drift in a base? haha since its open diff and only one wheel spins lol
i just read your statement, "THE Z DOESN'T NEED ANYTHING TO DRIFT."
but does it at least have to have a lsd? lol

it depends on how much you want to get into drifting and depending on how much you want to spend
1. buy stock oem vlsd (which quite frankly sucks) they drift 10x better than open tho, cost a few hundred dollars
2. weld yo sh*t (f it, its cheap and works 100%) but most people dont like to daily fully locked diff, cost less than 100
3. buy a real diff, either 1.5 or 2 way (2 way is pretty much an expensive welded that can hold more powa) this will cost you alot 1000+

you can drift a base but open diff makes the car very unpredictable and that makes it a lot harder.

i was thinking about maybe a quaife since there like 1000
but idk, and why is it bad to drive with a fully locked diff?
sorry i never had a rwd car, only a ford ranger when i was 16 haha
but yeah

^^ I drift a welded diff but when that sucker goes out I'm going all out on a 2 way... Here as you can see not a lot of folks like welded diffs cause they DO brake. Luckily i am one of a few that it hasn't given up on yet but it doesn't mean it won't. I say if you can't afford to buy a decent lsd at the moment and understand the negatives of driving daily on a welded diff do it but remember you will later down the road want to get a 1.5 or 2 way
BTW i finally got around doing my tie rods and damn, what a difference. Haven't gotten the z sideways yet since it still needs a fine tune but as soon as i get the chance too im going sideways lol...

the only reason ppl dont like it is because it breaks loose very easily in the rain and it hops/shakes on sharp turns.
but ^ manny here needs a better one since hes got some nice twins now

pretty much if you stay n/a and really want to start drifting just weld it.

and oh is that why there is like 60% and 100% lock? lol

So I got my tein inner and outer tie rods installed today. My mechanic told me that he didnt have to trim the bumpstop because the steering wheel wouldnt even reach it. I checked it out and he's right, the steering wheel locks before it even touches it.
What gives? I drive a G35 Coupe and not a 350z btw.

This thread is so informative and inspiring... When I log onto my350z I learn things more performance oriented as opposed to driver. Thanks Jason for creating a, perhaps, goal changing thread as to what I want to do with my car in the future.
